The Expert's Report.
On pages 4 and 5 of this issue will be
found the complete report of V. IL
Moore, the expert accountant engaged
by the County Court to expert the
books of the county officials of this
county. The report, as will be seen,, is
complete iu every detail. It speaks
well for the financial management of
the county. The outstanding warrants
of the county has been decreased from
147753.95 on October 1, 1904, to $38170.10
on November 15, 1907. Should all the
unpaid taxes be paid Lincoln county
would be out of debt by several thous
and dollars.
The offlnes of the Clerk and Sheriff
have paid the county in fees and other
collections more than is required to pay
the salaries of those officers. We doubt
that there is another county in the
state whose offices will make so good a
showing.

her stud is in school.

school several dnys.
A good many pupils have been absent
from the intermediate room this week
on account of sickness.
Chas. Gildersleeve has been absent
from school this week. He has been
quite sick with a cold.

ary 3, 1908, Miss Bina Jacobson and
Mr. Harold Hanson, Rev. Rogers offici
ating. After the ceiemony a wedding feast
was partaken of by the mauy friends of
the contracting couple.
Mr. and Mrs. Hanson will make their
home in this county.

Died.
At her home in this city, Saturday
January 25. 1908, Mrs. Malinda Tow!
uer, aged 22 years, of tuberculosis.
Mrs. Towner had been in poor health
all winter, the result of an attaot of
pneumonia. She was married iu the
Fall of 1905 to William Towner at
Siletz, where they had since resided
until about a year ago when they
moved to Toledo. Mrs. Towner was
born on the Siletz, being the daughter
of Pete 'Collius. Her sister Miss Al
vena Collius, died at Stleu Monday,
January 20.
Mrs. Towner was laid to rest in the
Siletz Cemetery Sunday, January 20.
The husband and children have the
sympathy of the entire community iu
their bereavement.
Sheriff Ross was in Newport the first
of the week, returning Inine Wednes
day morning.

Our town has improved quite a lot in the
last eight, or ten months, and there is still
more talk of improvement.
Ernest Everson intends building a new
house. When completed he expects to follow
in the steps of R. I'. Uoln.
The new shingle mill is almost completed.

The Oregnnian claims that a seagoing boat
cannot come into Alsea Bav. If so, how does
S. Elmore get his fish out? The last trip of

The Waldport band took an excursion up

and the music was appreciated by the settlers
along the river. 'Ihey give a dance every

she sutlered quite a sick spell. We are glad to
see the old lady back attain looking so well.
