The following edifying rumination?

typewriter by a worried editorial writer
who was trying to get tip a screed on
the overcrowding of tenements while u

me that they escape violent death as
long as they do.

Jesus Garcia, a Mexican and an en
gineer on a mining train on a railroad
down in Arizona, discovered while
sfauding at a little station the other
day that some of his cars were on fire.
Among these cars were two loaded with
powder. Should he detach the loco
motive and take flight, leaving the stat
ion and little settlement to be blown
up or not? He chose not to do so, but,
ordering the train crew off opened the
throttle wide and dashed for the coun
try. When the explosion came the
train was far enough In the country to
save all lives but bis own. He sacri
ficed himself for the rest, this unknown
Mexican who did not know that he was
one of the noblest of heroes. And in

An Indaina traveling man told the
following story the other day of an in
cident on tho road. He was In the
