rants endorsed prior to and on the
8th day of December, 1005. The
interest on all warrants endorsed
prior to that date was thereby stop
ped. Mr. Clark, who evidently is
ignorant of the true conditions,
advises the calling in of more war
rants, but such cannot be done for
the following reasons : The amount
of warrants and interest included
in the last prior calls not only equals
the amount in the county general
fund but is greater. The warrants
have been called in, the interest
stopiicd, and the money must be
kept in the fund for their payment
when presented. If the holders

county is not the looser: Further
more, it is these men's money that
the bankers are using. At present
there is $7,729,08 in tle county
fund which, as stated above, is less
than that of the warrants called and
which may bo presented for pay
ment any day. Thus the inadvisa
bility of calling in more warrants
until there is a surplus over and
above the warrants which have been
called, is evident. In addition to
the amount in the general fund,
there is at present in the treasurer's
hands about $5,000. This is not
county money, but is simply held
in trust for the various road and
school districts, and is paid to them
on demand, but is not available for
paying the expenses of the county.
This money has, in most cases,
lxjcn raised by a special tax levy
for a certain purpose and must not
Ijc confounded with the county
money.
