The New School Law.
A new school law passed by the last
; legislature makes it compulsory that
--all children between tho ages of 9 nnd
. M attend school for the. whole term
provided for tho district in which they
Iive. Children between the years of 14
.a ml 10 must utteud unless regularly
employed. Tho only exception where
t'ie child is physically able is in cases
lero children attend parochival or
private schools.
The penalty is lino and imprisonment
of the parent after notification by the
truant ollicer. And the law makes it
t he duty of the teacher to notify the
truant oillcer of any case where alten-
dance is not regular, nud any parent
can report tho teacher for failure to
make such report.
