The Waldport Hotel has changed hands again aud is run under the man agement of Mrs. Rust Kent, who is doing nicely and her boarders all speak well of the bill of fare. The ladies will give a bow and ribbon dance March JO, for the benefit of or ganizing a literary society. Chitwood Items. The Fanners' Association and Rural Telephone Compauy had a joint meet ing on the evening of February 20 for the purpose of talking up the interests of the rural telephone in this com munity. After the business was dis pensed with, next in order was recess, when the good ladies served us with pie and cake. A short program was next in order. There were some excellent selections by the Chitwood orchestra, and . N. Cook and C. D. Wilson gave us some good music on their harmoui cas, after which all returned home through a drenching rain, as happy as ducks. Oil the evening of February 27 the farmers met to consider various mat ters. The main question talked on was of fencing the schoolhouse lot, which is to be done right away. On the evening of February 26 the train brought in a family from Indian Territory by the name of Reid, through the influence of J. E. Wilson. They are the guests of J. E. and C. L. Wil son and have come to settle somewhere in this country. For the present they will live in a house belonging to L. F Pepin. Mr. Reid is a sawmill man, and be may conclude to put up a mill some where in this county. Three other iamilies came with them as far as Cor vajlis, where they rented houses and expect to look about and find locations if possible. M. 11. Wilson is expected home this week. Pepin has returned home, after visiting her mother at Eddyville several davs. Siletz Items. John Kentta has returned from week's business trip to Devil's Lane. Hall Bros, have leased the Metcalf place near town and will farm it tho coming year. Fred Chambers, who has visited his mother for several weeks, left for Port land on Monday. Father Bnclier has returned from an extended visit at Grand Ronde and other points in the valley. By the judicious use of paint Rev. Mr. Rienhart lias greatly improved the interior of the M. E. church. A sawmill is badly needed at this place. It is a good opening for some enterprising man with small capital. Lily the little daughter of Joseph Gay, was buried last Saturday. The funeral services were held in the Meth odist church. it is reported that a man by the name of Kyle is examining extensive tracts of timber down the river with the idea of putting in a large sawmill on the (ower Siletz. The fish hatchery on Cedar creek has been abandoned for this season. The paraphernalia used in conducting the same was hauled up here last Sunday, anri w . w.
