This proposition is an entirely Independent one and not in any way connected with any of the existing transportation lines In the Stale of Oregon. To his efforts are largely due the determination of eastern capitalists to construct the line. Olnce of linker & Crabtree ) 513-16-17, Knllerton Hldg 5 St. Louis, Mo., Jan. 12, 1906 ) Col. W. J. Wilsey, Care Imperial Hotel, Portland, Oregon. Dear sir: With reference to the proposition to construct a steam railroad from Portland to the Coast, and down the coast to Coos Bay, Oregon, thence to Humboldt Bay, California, as per plans heretofore di9cnssed with you, we beg to say that we havo made a thorough In vestigation in regard to this proposition and ure prepared to finance It and build the road. We will do this without delay provided the people in the territory through which this road will run and wbom it will most benefit are willing to guarantee nnd give free of charge all the rights ot way that will be re quired, and grant donations of depot sites water frontage on the bays touched by the proposed road, and give sufficient farming aiid timber lands as a bonus, or subsidy, to place the proposition on a business and equitable basis. We feel certain that the people living In th territory throuuh which the road will run and owning property therein cannot fall to realize the large benefits that will accrue to them as a resultof the carrying out of oui plans, and will-ive liberally toward making the proposi tion a FUCCCSB. Of course you understand that the road will not be a paying investment for the first few years It is operated no railroad is but we feel that the citizens of that purt of Ovagon cannot help but realize what a railroad .ould be to Ihein In the way of increasing the value of their property and placing them In position where tho products of their lands and labor tun be marketed. We will add that we have discusei the mat ter at length, with the Tru asportation Com- Tbe endorsement of the Portland Chamber of Commerce should leave no doubt as to the solidity and good stand ing of the promoters of the road. At present everything connected with the scheme looks ou the square. It is now up to the people of Lincoln county to give Colonel Supple all the eucouragemeut aud assistance at their command.
