land on a visit to their parents.
There has been much guessing here
as to who would get the mail contracts
and now it has been definitely settled
that Tom Harrison ol Salmon Town
gets the Newport to Tidewater route;
Mr. Stonefleld the Waldport to Flor
ence route, and Nick Ludemann the
Yachats route.
The tides . have been so high nnd
violent for the past ten days that Dick
livens has been unable to drive a wagon
and has been carrying the mail ou
horseback.
Mr. Spencer and wife were up
Wednesday from their farm to visit
our stores.
Born To the wife of James Monroe,
at Tidewater, a bouncing boy. Mother
and son both doing nicely.
Everyone is busy getting ready for
that masque ball February 2, and a
large number is xpected, with a good
time for all.
Mrs. Chas. Helms came home Thurs
day from a week's visit with her sister
at Newport.

Al Pveynolds left Tuesday for Toledo
on business.
Syuiva Oakland returned Monday
from Newport.
Ira Bray of Ten Mile brought up a
fine lot of lish the first of the week.
He reported his daughter, Miss Rosa,
quite sick.
Dr. Minthorn of Newport filled the
pnlpit at our church last Sunday and
his sermons were very interesting.
There is quite a little talk on our
streets again regarding the mill, and it
seems that it is about to start sawing
at once. Let's hope that auch is the
case.
C. R. Evans of South Beach spent a
day with us this week.
