I'rcallar Experience.
"In one of my. voyages from Cape
Town to England," writes a traveler,
"I shared my eabln with a peculiar
man, whose name was Lazarus. He
made me promise that If he should die
during the voyage I would prevent his
burial at sea. He said that on a pre
vious voynge he had fallen 'sick and
was taken for dead aud put Into a sack
for burial. A quartermaster had been
put on to watch the body until It was
time for the funeral. When the burial
party arrived the quartermaster In
formed the captain that he thought the
body had moved in the sack. The sack
was opened, and Lazarus eventually
came to life again. Such was the
story Lazarus told mo. Lazarus was
a thiu man with a sillow face. He
hnd an enormous appetite and appear
ed at every meal, to which he devoted
his whole energies. The good feeding
only seemed to ndd to his corpselike
appearance. One evening, sure enough,
when we were about halfway to our
voyage's end, he apparently died again.
The doctors took him in charge this
time, however, and he came out of his
trance without nny shotted sack epi
sode, ne was met at the London
docks by a number of relatives and
friends, nil of whom looked as if they
might be suffering from the same com
plaint." Belgium a Lace Center.
Belgium has long been an important
center of the lace industry. .
The art of - making lace spread
through Flanders from France and
Italy in the middle centuries owing to
the splendid qualities of Belgian flax,
and It was there that the wonderful
duchessc lace was originated. Much
of the so called Spanish lace black,
with Its large roses and trailing de
signwas also made in Flanders, and
for the last hundred years the cities of
Bruges, Ghent and Ypres have put on
the mof ket the three best grades of the
modern Valenciennes lace, each city
having a distinct variation In design
due to the differences In workmanship
gradually introduced in the course of
years In the three localities.
