Almost omnipresent, this nuisance you know
The man who butts in when yon talk.
On all propositions he's loaded forbear
Vou never t an catch him asleep;
Themes ancient und modem he's ready to air
In manner exceedingly deep.
Ho knows all of this and he known all of that,
And swoops down on yotirgiime like ahawk;
Ynurnu't put him out, and he's always at bat
The man who butts in w hen you talk.
lie s not very busy at work of his own
He's been treated kindly by Fato;

And make the world move whilo you wait.

The hole in the face of the man. if you please,

Having been refused a second trial in
the Federal Court by Judge Delbiven,
Senator Mitchell will now appeal to
t!:.' Supreme Court of the- Fulled
States. We have not yet learned just
what the Corvallis and Albany papers
think about it.
The famous watermelon patches and
fields of the Rogue river valley are on
the sick list again, and Prof. A. 13.
t'ordley of the Oregon Agricultural
College is the physician in attendance,
lie expects to have them doinga health
ful business again in about three years.
The disease with which they are af
fected is supposed to be a native of
'w ay down south in Georgia.
With three candidates for Uinger
Hermann's shoes in Marion county
alone, and gentlemen with aspirations
in several other counties, there is no
danger tlwt the First Congressional
district will bo without a representa
tive at tho National apital. There has
been some Sear among the timid that
tho famous land fraud cases would
i-unseau epidemic of congestive chills
aiiionu the Congressional bees.
The price of admission to the Lewis
and Clink Fir grounds in the evening
Las been reduced by a provision, where
by tho purchaser of a 50-ceut admis
sion ticket receives with his ticket
toupous which ndmit him to 23-conts'
worth of shows on the Trail. Tho ar
rangement is proving popular. The
change was made because it was
t hought that the 50 cent charge, which
merely permitted the vieitor to the
grounds, was unreasonable, since- the
exhibit palaces are not kept open in
the evenings
People who have hud the impression
Mint anthracite coal is found only in
1'etinsylvanla are disillusioned by the
exhibit of coul which Colarado has
mado at tha Lew in and Clark Fair.
Anthracite coal which contains !)0 8 per
cent carbon and, very Utile ash, is
shown, and tho statement is made that
the coal is being taken from the ground
at tha rate of V20 carloads a- day, each
unload being of from twenty to thirty
tons. A great part of the coal,, how
ever, i of the bituminous variety,
which contains from fifty to fifty four
pr cent carbon, 'lh.it shown at the
fi'air wus miued in Guuinson county.
Coke which coutains nearly ninety per
oent carbon is also shown.
