Elk City Events.
Last Saturday night the Oddfellow
nnd Rebekih lodges held a joint in
c tallalion of officers. Members of the
lodge were present from Eddyville.
Chitwood, Pioneer and Toledo. George
Sylvester of Newport was the installing
officer. Captain McJuukin brought up
fiom Toledo Messrs Krogstad, Peterson
and King and Mesdames Scuenek, Espy
and Arnold. A large number of in
vited gnests'. were present. After the
installation ceremonies were over a
Kernville Items. .
Joseph Sijota is hauling lumber to
build a new house.
Lilbnrn Hardin was the first to get
lumber for a new boat made from the
lumber sawed at the Silotz Bay mill.
The girls will now get a ride.
Prof. Hanson, after a few days' visit
ing around, resigned his position as
teacher of the Intermediate Mission
School and B. O. Lookwood, an experi
enced teacher from Nebraska, aud Miss
sumptuous repast was served in the ' SI'rt!e Parmele, who haebeena teacher
for seven years in Tillamook and Lin
coin comities, are carrying on the
school to the satisfaction of all. Miss
Carrie Lockwood is teaching stenography.
Thereis still room for more boys to
work in the sawmill to pay their board
while attending school. The school
house is near the mill. The boys say
it is more fan to work in the mill than
to play ball; besides they learn the
trade.

was over a short program was rendered
nnd short addresses were made by lodge
members and visitors. As it still
lacked a little of morning, the younger
portion of the assembly passed the time
away' with games aud marches. It was
a very pleasant and enjoyable time.

she got through with him he looked
like a fractional part of an atom.

Chitwood Items.
(Too late last week)
Everyone seems to have plenty of
work to do to keep them out of mis
chief. " P. L. Chitwood is building a good
bouse on his homestead for himself
and well, we don't know her name.
A fine time was had at R. R. Wood's
on Christmas. There were 29 persons
present, mostly relatives. A smn'ptous
dinner was served of everything good to
eat that one could wish, including tur
key with cake aud pie galore. They
also had a nice program.. Thechildren
spoke some pieces and sang some
sougs and all joined in singing some
good oid hymua. J. E. Wilson gave a
comic recitation entitled "The Changes
in 300 years," then sang several songs, !
Say, what is the matter with the Rail
Road Company? There has been
freight laying in the depot at Albany
some of it for about two months with
freight prepaid to Chitwood, but the
C. & E. won't bring, it, and the only
reason given for not bringing it through
is they dont know how much to charge

laying in the depot at Albany. What
can be the matter? We wHi the com
pany would either send the goods or ex
plain why they don't. Some of these
goods belong to families who bought
their winter's goods that they actually

The regular Farmers' 'Meetiug held
every other Tuesday night at the Chit
wood Schoolhouse. Last Tuesday the
3rd, the topic for discussion was "What
are We Going to do Toward Represent
ing, Lincoln County at the World's
Fair at Portland? If you want to hear

fishing at Big creek and report fish

Several parties have been in our
midst lately looking over the mill
pioperty with the view of purchasing,
but as yet we haven't heard of the sale
being coulirmed.
Frank Weist is visiting with relatives
on Eckman slough. ' ,
Chas. Graff is visiting in Newport for
a few days.
Rev. Mr. Hurd spent Sunday with us,
Mr. aud Mrs. Otto Thissell have
moved to Tidewater.
St.eelhead salmon aro running nicely
now, and Chas. Bobell aud Alvin Mc
Clary caught twenty-five fine ones in
one night.
MissMeta Bobell is visiting frienils
at Lutjeus.
Johnnie Ludeman. the popular cup-
tain of the launch Nome, tells us ihat
he will put on a fine new boat this sum
mer. Jim Harrison of Yachats paid W'ald
port a visit this Week.

A Corvallis girl teaching a country
school has dread of all kinds of con
