Master Fish Warden Van Dusen, at
tho regular, monthly session, of the
Board of Fish Commissioners last week,
made the following report of the salmon
hatchery near Elk City:
"On the Y'aquiua wo are having ex
ceptional success this yoar with our
hatchery work and have exceeded all
expectation. Reports so far received
show that 2,0fi",000 Chinook eggs wore
taken, and 2,5(51,000 Silversido eggs;
with enough Silverside salmon in the
traps to assure us of 500,000 more,
which will tax the hatchery to its full
est capsoity, for it was only built to
take care of five million eggs at one
lime. The rex 11 It of such work will
surely bo felt 011 that bay and will no
doubt bring returns that will assure
those people of f lOO.OnO annually and
prsibly twice that sum. So far. we
haven't had much chance to see what
can bo accomplished with the coast
si reams, but jf they show proportion
ately with the Columbia t'iver, and I
see no good reason why they should
not, a batch of tlvo million salmon lib
erated in good condition every year iu
a small bay like the Yaquina, will with
out doubt produce wonderful results"

As will bo seen by the proceedings,
the Commissioners Court has appropri
ated $1000 to 'be used in making and
maintaining an exhibit at the Lewis
and Clark Fair. Every fruit and veg
etable grower in the county who has
anything iu this line worth placing on
exhibition should at once communicate
with the County Court committee, as it
will be necessary to send to Portland
and place in cold storage until the
Fair opens all fruit and vegetables in

of the county can well afford to take an
active interest in securing material for
this exhibit, and it tuiiiht he well to
