Everything very quiet politically.
Lester Wangh was over on business
Wednesday.
Mrs. George Wilbur has been on the
sick list for several weeks.
Will and Frances Alexander were
visiting their parents a few days.
Kelsey Baker is very sick at the
lower farm with small hopes of re
covery. John Spencer, Billy Metcalf and
others are busy cutting wood for the
Government.
Major McKoin has made many in
provements in tho kitchen department
of the school.

L. D. Wood is with us for a short
time looking after the interests of his
6tock. He left today for the lower
Siletz.
Interest money to minors and the
first payment of $75 to some, who just
become of age helps considerably at
this time of the year.
Ellen Sypneski a oung lady is at
Micek's hostelry awaiting the coming
of her parents, who will make their
home in Lincoln county.
Tom Jackson and John Micek scowed
some parties and about 1000 pounds of
provisions down the river as far as Ua
noe Landing Wednesday.
Miss Pearl Hall, after a brief visit
among friends in Toledo and Newport,
is home again distributing mail at the
old stand in her pleasant way.
A $10,000 bond is being required by
the Indian Department of all those
who in any way carry on a traffic
among the Indians on the reservations.
Something went wrong with the con
veyance of Dr. Wetmore Monday on his
way to Siletz and he and Miss Pearl
Hall, who accompanied him, had to
walk most of thu way borne.
Arthur Bensell took his departure
for Salem, Chemawa and other valley
points Monday in 6earch' of another
position. We wish him success as he is
worthy of the highest esteem and con
fidence of his employer.
E. T. Hamar of Kansas has assumed
his duties as industrial teacher. He is
manifesting a large amount of perse
verance and pluck and gradually ac
quiring the appetite characteristic of
Siletzites. lie is studying the climatic
privileges and difficulties here and
likes it.
Complaints are growing numerous as
to the w ay tho mail is conveyed between
Siletz aud Toledo. Sometimes with a
load of passougers, sometimes on horse
back aud at other times the Govern
ment physician brings it. It is not al
ways on time. Somo regular convey
ance should be furnished.
All services at the chapel are increas
ing in atteudanco aud interest. All
the employes attend divine services.
Tho Sunday School is equipped better
thau ever this year with literature aud
te'icuel8' Special pieces by the choir
every Sabbath. "Beyond the Gates of
Paradino" by Mrs. Brvant Sundav
morning. Come uud encourage the
good work by your presence.
Farewell aoeials were given Tuesday
aud Weduosday evenings in honor of
Harry McKoin, who, iu the short time
he has been with us, has made tunny
j friends. Business Interests iu Noedles,
California, requires his immediate at-
teutiou. It leaves a gap iu our social
fabric difficult to patch. He U a wide-

The social life at Siletz and the school
is fast ussuming its old-time vigor and
conditions. Not a week passes but
some of the employes eutertalu in their
