The fanners of Kansas are form
ing a trust. By organizing they
hope to be able to hold tbeir grain
until a satisfactory price can be ob
tained. This is a sensible idea, and
the soil-tillers of every state in the
Union should line up with their
rbrethren in bleeding Kansas. The
.returns from the scheme will be
found much more substantial than
; those derived from sitting on a box
in flout of u.iloic, nhililiug, chew
ing tobai.n o and damming the trusts'
Farmers should "get together" in
the true sense of the term. That
kind of a trust would protect them
.against all others woull, in fact.
make all other trusts look like mere
side-shows.
The real "paramount issue" is
neither "16 to i" nor "imperial
ism," but Bryan himself. This
places all the vagaries, fallacies, ex
ploded theories, etc, in a pile and
'makes it possible for the voters to
arm themselves with ballots at the
November election and pour in an
effective "potshot." The opposing
forces may properly be designated
as "Bryan and "anti-Bryan." This
.arrangement removes a number of
.distinctions without a difference.
One Philip A. Marquam of Mc
lalla. this state, took his pen in
hand the other day, produced some
fearful and wonderful "poetry" and
had it inserted in the Oregon City
Courier-Herald, with a request that
"other papers please publish." We
cannot comply with the poet's re
quest until we learn what he is will
ing to pay for the space. It's worth
several times regular rates, aud we
hope the Courier-Herald got it.

.Hoar's opinion is sharod by thou
sands of so-called "anti-imperialists."
Democratic predictions of dire
disaster in event of republican suc
cess have always been proven false!
For this reason the dear people can
only smile a broad smile when
Bryan declares we'll lose our dear
old Fourth of July if he is defeated.
Senator I.ce Mantle of Montana,
who left the rebubliean . parly in
1896 because it wouldn't embrace,
the 16-to-t idea, has returned to
his old love, frankly admitting that

Country in a prosperous condition.
In the -Kansas City convention
some delegate, full of sentiment or
something, dubbed Bryan "The Ne
braska Lily." As, be has been
ndopted by Tamunny, it will bv
perfectly proper to refer to him as
''The Tiger J.ily."
