Kvery postmaster in Lincoln county is author
ized to a;t as agent for the I.kadek.
Oregon has gone republican, and
Lincoln county has helped to stack
up the majorities. Congressman
Tongue has beaten Bernard Daly
by a majority of about 150 in the
county and about 2500 in the dis
trict. Dr. W. Tyler Smith leads
his opponent, J. T. Simpson, by a
majority of perhaps 150 and also
carries Yamhill and Tillamook,
thus giving the republicans the
joint senator. Judge W. L. Wells,
republican candidate for joint rep
resentative, has carried the county
by about 190, but Polk county has
gone against him by n little more
than that figure, apparently, and
he is probably defeated. George
M. Brown, the popular prosecuting
attorney, is again heartily endorsed
by the voters of Lincoln county,
and is re-elected by a big majority.
Sheriff Ross is re-elected by a ma
jority of about 300. Treasurer
Hyde gels there again by plenty.
County Clerk Lutz is re elected
over Iilmo Davis by about 50. As
sessor Wadswotth is retained in
the office and has a majority over
his two opponents of about 100.
L. C Powell is apparently elected
surveyor by a small majority. Lin
coln county also szave the state
ticket a good boost along the high
way to victory. Let the band play.
vSome of our readers were offended
because we made certain statements
last week reflecting upon the can
didacy of Mr. Lutz. When proof
is brought that these statements
were untrue, The Leader will
cheerfully retract and apologize.
That the statements were not made
sooner was due to the simple fact
that we did not obtain the material
for Iheni until Wednesday of last
week. We can prove this by men
whose reputations are unexcelled.
The election is over, Mr. Lutz has
won, and The Leader is willing
to be shown wherein it erred. Our
columns are open. The man who
does not consider this a fair prop
osition is hard to please.
Defeat has not soured KImo
Davis. He is young, strong and
gooii-naturett, antl will live to;
cause some other man to eat crow. I
