While making comparisons it is
interesting to note that the'freight
trains of the United States carry an
average of 912,973,853 tons a year.
Great Britain is a poor second with
437.043.265 tons. In fact, there
isn't anything of importance in
which we do not lead. The onlv

It is reported that Aguinaldo's
wife died recently while arrom-
panying him on his frantic effort to
escape from the Philippines. There
is a touch of sadness in this, but
the way of the transgressor is hard.
Aguinaldo has caused a heap
o'trouble in this world, and no
little share of the same has fallen
upon his own arnbitious and
wicked head.
The Boers and the British seem
to be taking a breathing spell.
The next round will probably be
one of the very warmest. It is
about time the British are winning
a fall, if they ever expect to.
"With hope millions stand cn
the closing day of the year with
faces toward the future," writes
Mrs. Hamilton Mott in the January
Ladies' Home Journal. " 'What
will the new year bring me?' each
one asks himself. No one knows.
And how well it is that it is
that we do not. It requires sober
thought to realize that what we
are and what we do are along the
lines of a wise creation. It is often
very easy for us to feel that we
might change things for the better
if the power and opportunity were
but ours. But the most astute
cleverness of man is a poor affair
when compared with the simplest
wisdom of God. And one thing
that can make this new year before
us happier is to have that one feel
ing, that one thought, that one
faith always with us: That 'what
ever is, is right' and for the best.
Frequently we cannot comprehend
at the tiem why this should be so,
why that should happen, and why
some particular trial should come
to us while some great joy comes
at the same time to another; why
we should have so little and others
so much. But nothing ever comes
into our lives except what is for
our good. And some day we shall
clearly understand all."
Son of an Ohio Merchant Cured of
Chronic Diarrhoea.
My son has been troubled for
years with chronic diarluca. Some
time ago I persuaded him to take
some of Chamberlain's Colic, Chol
era and Diarrluea Remedy. After
using two bottles of the 25-cent
size he was cured. I give this tes
timonial, hoping some one similarly
afflicted may read it and be bene
fited. Thomas C. Bower, Glcncoc,

A SURE CURE FOR CROUP.
Twenty-five Years' Constant Use
Without a Failure.
The first indication of croup is
hoarseness, and in a child subject
to that disease it may be taken as a
sure sign of the approach of an at
tack. Following this hoarseness is
a peculiar rough cough. If Cham
berlain's Cough Remedy is given
as soon as the child becomes hoarse,
or even after the cronpy cough ap
pears, it will prevent the attack.
It is ' used in many thousands ot
homes in this broad land and never
disappoints the anxious mothers.
We have yet to learn of a single in
stance in which it has not proved
effectual. No ether preparation can
show such a record twenty-five
years' constant use without a fail
ure. For sale by O. O. Krogstad,
druggist.

have been permanently cured by it. It

Is a very common consequence of indi
gestion and torpid liver. Sometimes
there are spots before the eyes and hot
flashes. At other times a sensation as
of vertigo occurs, at once suffocating and
blinding. It is a waste of time to at
tempt to cure this
condition by or
dinary means or
medicines. The
stomach and
