Agent Buford was a Monday
visitor in this city, doubtless look
ing after the interest of his wards.
Sunday was a corker. The wind
howled and rain fell in sheets all
day long. God pity the old tar
who was on watch Saturday night.
Rev. Chas. Booth held services
in the Episcopal church Sunday
morning and evening, much to the
pleasure of his little flock. He
returned home Monday evening.
Sheriff Ross spent Monday in the
eastern part of the county summon
ing jurors for next week's session
of circuit court. He went to New
port in the evening on the same
errand.'

Fred has to be here during court
week as a witness and will also
visit his mother on the Agency
before returning to work

sized in Tacoma harbor Saturday
night and seventeen lives were lost
all on board. No one knew of
the accident till day light.

tains that lie between Falls City
and the Siletz and no trace has been
found. His friends have almost
given up and yet they are scouring
the woods in hopes of stumbling

Newnort Friday to look after the

closure of mortgage by L. W.
Williams the following day. Geo.
H. Williams ot Portland purchased
Lee's interest in the. property and
in this manner the matter was
settled and Will seems to breathe
easier. At noon Monday he was
still in this city, but returned tnat
afternoon, report says.

An amusing" incident occurred
on Commercial street Friday, after-

had placed a person in a cataleptic
state in the window of Peterson &
Brown, and a crowd had gathered
near the store. One of the men in
the crowd freely remarked that
McEwen was a ,'fake," arid that
the person in the window was not
in a cataleptic . state, but that he
also was "faking." McEwen hap
pened along, and unknown to the
man who was roasting him, listened
to his abuse for a few minutes
