Sheriff Ross sold some property
at sheriffs sale in Yaquina Satur
day. It consisted of butcher s tools
owned by Thos. Rexingerand they
were purchased by John M. Bowers,
a former business partner.
Some of our local merchants tell
us it does not pay to advertise
that no one ever reads the adver
tisements. . Our own "Cheap
Reading" card is not more attrac
tive than others, yet we received
orders from Portland, Nevada and
Minnesota last week a direct re
turn from this card. It is still true
that Leader advertisers do the
business.

visit to the Grand Ronde agency
and also at Corvallis. He is labor
ing in the Lord's vineyard at the
Siletz agency and the Indians value
him and his labors very highly.

Ye editor visited Bellamy colony
Monday. He found a beautiful
tract of land there and a coterie of
men who are good farmers, ener
getie workers and will succeed.
Everything is cared for about the
place. Two new houses have been
erected and time only is needed to
make the place a beautiful home.
Dr. R. E. Darnell, whose card
appears in another column, has
been a busy man during the late
grip epidemic. So many were
suffering from its ravages, even
though in a mild form, that he has
been almost constantly on the go.
Suppose he can stand a great deal
of this kind of work and not sin
cerely find fault.

E. E. Kightlinger, clerk at the
Agency, has been ill enough that
he could not scarcely attend to his
duties, and Sunday Agent Buford
was in this place for the purpose of
procuring temporary assistance, but
the Leader is unformed that Hon.
C. B. Crosno, whom he wished to
assist him, could not go because of
other duties and sickness also

Saturday. He came up the rive
and over the road from the Agency
to look after the welfare of a road
petition which was not acted upon
at the regular December session
because not properly finished.
Monday morning he went to Cor
vallis to attend to business there
before returning to his Salmon
river home.
Andrew Carlson, sent up for one
year from this county a year ago
for larceny, is not only at large, but
has made the trip into our midst
very easily and almost without
being seen at all. Harshal Horning
passed him on his outward trip last
week. He had a new pair of gum
boots swung over his shoulder and
they undoubtedly contained the
balance of the stolen goods not
frmnd nn him when taken near
Slab Creek last winter.
