Hawkins, a young attor ney from Albany has located in To ledo and will engage in the practice of law. Mr. Hawkins comes well recommended, and we wish him success. His office for the present is with C. B. Crosno. Dr.J. W. Mahon, of Elmira, Lane county, was a passenger on Tuesday's train for Newport. Dr. Mahon goes to the vicinity of Otter Rock, where he believes there is a deposit of platinum ore. There is 110 question but that platinum exists along that part of the coast. In the black sand deposits in that vicinity there is always a large percentage of platinum found in connection with the gold deposits. There is but one deposit of platinum ore in existence in the United States, and if a deposit does exist in this coun ty it will be of much value. The greatly increased use of platinum in electrical appliances has made that metal quite valuable, now being next to gold in value. The ore is of a peculiar character. It is found in small, rough and extremely hard nuggets. The ore does not in ledges, but the nuggets are found in layers similar to gravel beds. Dr. Mahon is making his investiga tion in the interest of a firm in the East who have a plant for the re- J duction of plattuum ore. COMHUMCATBD. COMMITTEE MEETING. N. Arnold. Harlan- B. F. Yesterday two suits were filed in the Circuit court of this countv against B. F. Jones, as county clerk and his bondsmen for his last two terms, to recover the sum of $5286, 00, money alleged to be due the county collected by the clerk and by him retained as his legal fees and emoluments; also for money re ceived in the redemption of property sold at delinquent tax sale. This suit is one which has long been threatened by the court, but for some reason has never been brought before. The old contention that the clerk is on a salary is made in the complaint, and seems to be the whole kernel of trip matter f 1 i " .i...in.t . A lie ex,sM case will be heard at the cominr term of court, and we do not hes itate to predict that some interesting developments will be made. No-To-Bac (or Flftj C.nt. Wm.
