Electricity is becoming a greater
factor in agriculture every year.
On the great sugar beet farms of
Germany, electric plowing has be
come a common thing. The major
ity of such farms are already equip
ped with steam engines; the addi
ion of the generating dynamos is
easy, and overhead wires or con-
ducto laid on the ground carry
the rrent to motors at distant
points from the common center.
The ploughs are operated by being
hauled by the motor wagon, and
several sets of apparatus can be dri
ven simultaneously from the same
central point. It is possible with
an electrical conductor of 1640 feet
and a ploughing rope of 985 feet
working length, to plough 222 acres
from one centre of operation. With
a steam and dynamo equipment of
250 horse-power and with five
ploughs, 6,000 acres of medium hea
vy ground can be ploughed to a
depth of fourteen inches at a total
cost of 95 cents per acre. This is a
new factor in agriculture, that must
ere long be taken into account in
the consideration of the production
of all the staples. The great wheat
fields of the Northwest and the
great corn fields of the middle West,
are admirably adapted to the use of
electrical implements. Electrical
engineering will some day be a fea
ture of the agricultural course in
our universities. Farm News.
A few weeks ago the editor was
taken with a severe cold that
caused him to be in a most miser
able condition. It was undoubted
ly a bad case of lagrippe and recog
nizing it as dangerous he took im
mediate steps to bring about a
speed cure. From the advertise
ment of Chamberlaiu's Cough Rem
edy and the many good recommen
dations included therein, we con
cluded to make a first ttial of the
medicine. To say that it was sat
isfactory in its results is putting it
very mildly, indeed. It acted like
magic and the result was a speedy
and permanent cure. We have no
hesitancy in recommending this ex
cellent cough remedy to auyone af
flicted with a cough or cold in any
form. The Banner of Liberty, Lib
