! county. We want and need their trade and gocd will. We want them to bring their produce here to ' sell, and our merchants want to sell j them goods. A movement should , be made at once. Toledo is poor j in money, but we Deneve mai sne is rich enough in labor to do this important piece of work. Two men were drowned at the mouth of the'Siletz last Saturday. They were from Nestucca and were going to the Siletz to fish. They were in a small fishing boat and at-! tempted to land through the heavy j surf running. Their boat was swamped and came ashore bottom I up. The bodies of the men never , came ashore. Their names were( Pianter and White. Three other men in another fish boat that started the same time, landed in the Siletz ! safely. j Grand Millinery Opening! Mrs. T. P. C<Vw Merit in medicine means the power to cure. Hood's Sarsaparilla possesses actual and unequalled curative power and there fore it has true merit. When you buy Hood's Sarsaparllla, and take it according to directions, to purify your blood, or cure any of the many blood diseases, yon are morally certain to receive benefit. The power to care is there. You are not trying an experiment. It will make your blood pure, rich and nourishing, and thus drive out the germs of disease, strengthen the nerves and build up the whole system. We have had prepared for us by a physician a little book, telling; in easy words how and why Scott's Emulsion benefits, and a postal card request will be enough, to have ii sent to you free. To-day would be a good time to send for it. SCOTT & BOWNE, New York. For the first time for several months a full county county court is in session in this county (full in numbers, we mean.) The court is presided over by Judge Stearn, and Commissioners Williams and God win fill the quota. Considerable business of importance confronts the court at this term, a great deal of it having been continued over awaiting the appointment of a county judge. Action should be taken at once by our people towards opening the horse trail to tidewater on the Siletz. We fear our people do not realize the importance of this mat ter. From the head of tide on clown the Siletz, and on Salmon river and the country around Devil's lake there are many new settlers located. Industries are being .es tablished. In fact one of the heaviest enterprises in the county has been established already in the plant of Kern Bros. Packing com pany's cannery. A saw mill will doubtless be one of the enterprises tJ be established during the coming year. All that country is a new ami growing country, but it has no outlet in the way of roads or trails. It is seeking an outlet. Such out let can be secured with the least expense of money and labor to Toledo. It is the natural route. But it will be absolutely necessary for these people to have some help, in fact a great deal of help, to build their road. It is of no use for them to ask the county to help, for the court has already refused to aid the settlers on Salmon river and Devil's lake to secure a road to the Siletz, even to the extent of having the route surveyed and located, and the settlers then to make the road. It becomes the duty of the people of Toledo, and it is also to their self interest, to assist iu the opening of a road from the head of Depoe, above Chas. Carlson's place, to the head of tide on the Siletz. This route is about twelve or fifteen miles, attd is on a continuous ridge. There will not be a bridge to make on the whole route. For this year the best that can be done is to open up a horse trail. It would not require a great deal of labor to do this. The people on the other eud of the route would help some, and a trail could be opened up in thn.e weeks. Let us get in and do this at once. That Siletz and Salmon river country is the biggest part of our some stock of Fall and Winter hats and other millinery gocds. This stock has been selected from the latest styles and fashions. Every thing new and up to date. No old styles, shapes or paterns. Ladies, call on opening day whether you buy or not. Very Respectfully Mrs. T. P. Fish. Jt A.
