Senator Lane has taken up the cause
or settlers In the Mule Creek re
gion, in tho Rogue River country,
particularly In Josephine and Curry
counties. They desire to have a
road constructed across the moun
tains, but owing to the large area
there embraced In tho forest re
servo and in railroad grants, there
is nn Insufficient Income from taies
to meet tho cost. Senator Lane
says that he knows tho region well,
that it is one of tho most delight
ful to bo found anywhere, and was

Camp. "The action of tho Govern
ment In granting away millions of
dollnrs worth of land and In con
serving much moro for the forests,'
