THE COOS BAY TIMES, "- ESAY. ""ST 12' "l"1"8 EDITIW- !1 v D - " I I 1 . m ""rrr'' - i i BIB SURVEYS CQUNGIL WILL Ml UP LOIS Kutcheson Property on Front Street Shy Three Feet of Frontage for Building. A peculiar problem lias arisen In connection with the nu Hutela-son block on Front street, north of the vnetntHin ttint Is nernlevln u en gineers and others who are tr.Uiig ( to settle It. The iiroblum Is to lo-, cato a missing strip of about three feet of ground. .Ail the ptoperty on Front street t is deeded by meets and bounds, hav-( Ing formerly been tldeland, Tho descriptions are Intricate, nbout for- j ty different meets and boundn be- ( Ing UHed In describing tho Iltitchc- ( son property In question. Tho var-, Ions surveys conflict more or less, and are responsible for the missing I three feet. I The Hutcheson property Is sup posed to have a frontage of about forty-six feet on Front street, but the survey for the new building shows that there Is only about forty- three feet left for It, the buildings on both sides tnhlng up tho balance. ( City Engineer Buckingham says( there Is the required total front age on Front street between Market and Alder. Tho Hutcheson build ing that Is being torn away en croached about ten Inches on tho Masonic property, In which tho Postofflce Is now located, so that the missing three four must bo ta ken up by buildings north of there. Whether tho matter can bo Btralgthencd out now or whether It would require n general moving of tho buildings north of tho new building to get on to their own lot lines Is a problem. - I AMOXG THU SICK. I Mrs. Drolllugor, of West Mursh- lield, underwent an operation for appendicitis at Mercy Hospital Sun day and Is getting along nicely. Eintuorsoii Elliott, cheesemaker at tho Coos Day Ico and Cold Storage plant, who underwent an operation for appendicitis Is reported to bo doing nicely. Mrs. Itebecca Liiso-Stunip Is re ported slowly recovering from her. recent Illness. She Is now staying with Miss Mary Durnbach at St. Monica's parochial residence during tho nbesnce of Itov. Father Munro. Wnltor Duller, who was taken III Is reported somo better today, but is still confined to his home, Tom Hall was reported somewhat Improved at his home In West Mnrshtleld today. ST.Wi PARTV. Last Thursday evening A. T. l.agertsrom gave a stag parly for his brother, Cornell Lagorstr A delirious Dutch supper was serv ed and cards furnished the diversion of the evening. Those present wore; I Messrs. Vernon Smith, Tom Dennett,, Frank llenth, Addison I'arry, .lack Moreen, Hugo CJutst. .Mr. Isakson and Howard Freeman. IK VALUES Lack of Quorum Causes Ad journment to Wednesday Assessor's Figures Up. Owing to the absence of several members of the City Council last evening, a quorum could not bo obtained and adjournment was ta ken until Wednesday evening. Mny or Straw was absent, Council Mer chant was at his summer home at llastendorf's Heach, Councilman Al len was away on a trip and Coun cilman Copple had not returned from his New York trip. There were several street assess ment matters and the North Front street sewage system assessment were to be acted upon. Assessments Up. Another matter to be acted on Is the equalization of assessments In tho city of Mnrshlleld. City Engin eer Ducklughain has entered the new assessments on a city map, tho assessments of the real estate nnd of tho buildings being entered sep arately. Tho matter was gono over briefly last evening and n few mat ters wore noted that will probably bo taken up. Assessor Thrift requested Engln eer Ducklngham to have tho Council ilx tho assessment that they thought was right on all property that they did not think was fairly assessed. ' Mr. Tnrlft informed Mr. Bucking ham that tho highest assessed lot In Myrtle Point was about $1200; In Coqulllo about $iri00; In Uandon about $3000; In North liend about $2700 and In Mnrshlleld nbout $S,- 7 no. Tho highest nssessed lot In Marsh Held, owing to Its comparatively small size, Is the lot on which tho Flanagan &. Dennett bank is locat ed, and the assessment Is $S7i0 Tho Loekhart corner across tho street, which Is considerably larger it) nssessed at about $11,000. For City Registration, 1 City Recorder Dutler read a let tor from County Clerk Watson ask Ing him to serve as register of vot ers In tho North Mnrshtlold pre clnet. Mr. Watson explained that this fall the city and county regis t rations would hnvo to ho made separately and as Mr. Dutler would hnvo to .register the voters In tho precinct for tho city, ho might ns well register them for tho county and thus not ton cents nplero for tho additional work. This was agreeable to the Councilman pros our. However, there Is a nilxup In tho nppolntmont. County Clerk Wat sou thought that ho was appointing A. IC. Deck for tho South Mursli- lluld precinct, but gavo the number of the North Mnrshlleld precinct and the latter has qualified for that place. Whether Mr. Dutler would be eligible for the South Mnrshlleld precinct will probably bo decided later. PERSONAL NOTES If, c. DIERS, of North Dcnd, wns a Mnrshlleld visitor yesterday. MRS. T. S.
