evening. A large flock passed over
the city and the birds were flying
low down. Some of the hunters saw

Tho wild geese can ho killed during
the same season as ducks, The geeso
will not remain long. They stop for

'sand hill Inkos and then go, to' tho
Interior.
Tho old-timers say that the flight
of geeso south Is an Indication that

Caught Big Salmon. Ed 'Morrlsey
haB now become an enthusiastic sal
mon fisherman. Sunday he had only
n 9-lnch rod nnd a light silk trout
line. Every ono who wns out In' the
'bay told hlniiho could not land n sal
mon with that outfit. .He did, how
ever, and got n 12-poundor. Ho
played with tho fish for twenty min
utes before he wns able to lnnd him.
Morrlsey had no gapp nnd ho grabbed
tho salmon with his hand and got
bitten In several places, but ho got
the salmon Into tho boat. Morrlsey
says catching big salmon with n tlit
tlo pole Is the only sport on tho bay.
W. R. HAINES went to Myrtlo Point
today on business.

P. M. Hall-Lewis yesterday ordered
nluo boxes of apples shipped down by
Ivy Coudron to Mnrshflold, returned
to tho growor because many of Miem
were defective. By having tho fruit
returned to the grower, the loss Is
reduced, us the good fruit can be
sorted out nnd marketed.
Repairing Telephone Linos. Tho
tolephono lino from North Bend to
Empire Is bolug repaired. During
tho forest fires It wns damnged n
good deal nnd since then tho servlco
has been bad. Now cross arms nre
being put in place on some of the
poles and the lino will bo mnde first
class throughout.

them and killed him but It required

had his shotgun loaded with No. 7
shot nnd it required a good deal of
shooting, but ho and Tower flnnlly
