discovered this mistake, that there

one hundred and forty present. Why
weren't either the Enterprise or the
Sentinel fair enough to report the
statements of Mr. Pulford and Mr.
Bennett? Neither the editor of the

THE ASSEMBLY COUNT.
Thanks to Mr. Pulford's endeavor,
the "official count" prevented Assem
bly prevaricators from going forth
and claiming that a hundred or two
hundred were present.
As to Mr. Roberts, his remarks
were too disconnected and dealt too
much with glittering generalities to
merit reply. He had apparently primed
himself to follow Mr. Pulford, his
"assistant' political boss of Myrtle
Point," but Mr. Bennett intervened
with an Incontrovertible statement of
the situation and took all the wind
out his sails, but he whined because
any one had the temerity to question
the motives of himself or his fellow
Assembly promoters.
WILL NOT RUN AGAIN.
"During tho closing moments of
the session, which was marked by the
greatest of harmony and cordiality
among the Republicans, S. D. Pul
ford and L. J. Roberts each made a
speech attacking the Coos Bay Times
in no uncertain language for having
accused the Myrtle Point Enterprise
and its informants with having fal
sified as to the figures of the attend
ance at the first meeting of the As
sembly. Mr. Maloney, representing
The Times at the meeting, made no
rrply to their attacks." Bandon Re
uoider. This is another example of the
contemptible, sneaking means ' em
ployed by certain individuals who
are attempting to bolster up the as
sembly by misrepresent ;t'ons and
who tv 111 resort to anything in an
effort to discredit the truth when It
brings their methods to light. As
the editor of the Bandon Recorder
was not personally at the last assem
bly, or tho first one for that matter,
The Times excuses him for being un
wittingly the victim of a sneak who
attempts to gain prestige for his
cause by doliberale unfairness. If tho
Recorder will glvo the name of Its
informant, The Times will endeiror
to place him in the proper light. j
As was published in Tho Times' ac-
count of the Assembly, one S. D. Pul
ford of Myrtle Point did ariso In tho
meeting and ask that an official count
bo taken of thoso present so that "It
would not be misrepresented by The
Times." Ho had scarcely uttered the
words when J, W. Bennett of Marsh
finld, a leader In tho Assembly move
ment, aroso and informed Mr. Pul
ford that ho had personally counted
thoso present at the ilrst assembly
and that Tho Times' statement of tho
number was correct, his pergonal
count varying only one or two from
thu number (07) given by The Times
and stnted that such a small differ
ence might easily occur In his casual
enumeration of a crowd.
Why didn't the Recorder's Inform
ant bo fair and glvo Mr. Bennett's
statement as to who was viirht-
