News of the Upper Coquille as Told
By The Enterprise.
Matt Nystrom is laid up with a
very sore foot. Ho stepped on a
twenty-penny nail Wednesday morn
ing and ran it through the foot.
T. D. Guerln has sold his Maxwell
runabout and has purchased another
and' larger car of the same make
-which ho was trying out Monday.
Freddie, the little son of Mr. and
Mrs. L. E. Rose, fell from the cook
house at the Weekly road camp on
the Middle Fork last Saturday and
hroke his arm.
Ed. Jones' place of 240 acres was
sold Tuesday of this week to Charles
H. Smith, a recent arrival from Fres
no, Calif. Mr. Jones may buy a place
closer to town.
J. Machado left Tuesday for Port
land and will accompany his daugh
ters, Glenn and Bessie, home. They
have been attending Saint Mary's
Academy during the winter.
Jason and Lawrence Machado, who
have been attending Father Crawley's
school at San Francisco, returned
Monday afternoon. They were met
at Bandon by their father.
Miss Nellie Dement, who has been
teaching school at Grants Pass,
reached home Tuesday evening, hav
ing come down on the Breakwater
from Portland where she enjoyed the
Rose festival. She expects to go to
Klamath Falls next winter.
Three farm houses in this immedi
ate territory were destroyed by fire
last week. The third was the farm
house of John Neil on the South
Fork. The destroyed dwelling was
of comfortable size and In very good
condition, and tho loss will bo felt
by Mr. Nell. The estimated amount
of his loss has not been ascertained.
While engaged in a friendly scuffle
In the store of the Myrtle Point Hard
ware Company Saturday evening,
Charles Schroedor, one of tho pro
prietors, had the misfortune to strike
his wrist against a sharp double
bitted axe which was in tho rack.
The force of the blow caused the axe1
to cut in to tho bone, severing two
arteries, and tho victim of the acci
dent suffered a considerable loss of
blood before the wound could bo
dressed.

a month's vacation, which she will
spend with friends In Portland and

On Monday of this week a deal was
closed whereby George W. Beal and
Ren Smith of Marshfield became tho
owners of the 320-aere Notley tract
lying just east of this city. The pur
chase price of the tract was in the
neighborhood of $20,000, but the ex
act figures were not given out by the
purchasers. Tho timber on the tract
will bo placed on the market at ouco
and as soon as sold will bo logged off
and tho tract platted into city lots
and placed on the market.
Yesterday A, W. Kelley reported
that tho statement made In those col
umns last week to the effect that his
bro her in-law, A. A. Antotne, was
dead was untrue. The announcement
of his death was leeelved a week ago
but last Saturday a letter was re
ceived from his wife in which she
states that Mr. Antoine is rapidly im
proving and that tho doctor thinks
he will be out in a few days. The
error evidently occurred In tho trans
mission of the telephonic message.

North Inlet School Holds Commence
ment Exercises.
Tho North Inlet School In Dlstrlrt
No. 53, held its commencement ex
ercises in the school house Saturday
evening. The graduates were Clara
Belle Waters, Glen Hope, Rush Hops
and Clarence Franklin Hamilton. The
diplomas were presented by the chair
man, Mr. Pinkerton. Miss Mabel
Knight ncted as flower girl for the
exercises. Mary E. Thompson was
the teacher.
