ORDER BOOKS FOR THE NEW LIBRARY Arrangements Made to Install It In High School Building Temporarily. As has been announced before, the Public Library Commltteo is prepar ing to make their first purchase of books which Is to be Installed for the present and temporarily only In a room leased from the directors in the High School building. This list of books will be made up largely of encyclopedias and re ference books, necessarily so, for two reasons: First, because they aro always made the first object In any library, and second, because as they aro never allowed to be re moved from tho library headquar ters no system of loan or distribu tion is necessary and consequently no regular librarian is required which in the present situation of tho library's affairs Is of great impor tance. The Library Commltteo feels considerably richer through the timely action of the Progress Club which has just turned over to them tho $150 which was raised for the benefit of tho library, through tho efforts of the club over a year and a half ago. This will en able tho committee to make a very good showing indeed,, and they esteem tho action of the Progress Club very highly as the money will be of much greater value to them now than later, when they confi dently expect to have more. It Is only a question of a short time when Marshfleld will have a well equipped library in a central location. COMMITTEE. FARMERS TALK IT OVER. NEW LIFEBOAT USELESS. Tillamook Station Poorly Equipped to Grapple With Disaster. TILLAMOOK, Ore., Jan. 20. .Nothing has been .done to Improve tho life-saving station at Tillamook. The station was recently furnished with a boat of the samo dimensions .as tho one damaged going to the wrecked steamer Argo and which capsized In tho breakers, drowning ono of the Ilfesavlng crew and two icmnlo passengers from tho Ill-fated fitcamer. Tho new boat Is perfectly aisehsss to grapplo with conditions which prevail hero at times, and "would placo tho lives of the lifesav Jng crow in danger whenever it at tempted to cross out over the bar to aid a vessel in distress or to save tho lives of passengers and crew. This was fully demonstrated In tho Argo disaster, for out of tho Ave 'persons drowned tho last lifeboat was tho cause of three deaths, and It is a. wonder that more were not drowned of tho life-saving crow, which wns In tho breakers for an liour boforo It reached shore after tho boat capsized. Tho station needs a bar and motor boat, and a team of liorses as there is nine miles of beach to Nohalom Bay. Discuss Cooperation ami Concentra tion. (By Associated Press.) WALLA, WALLA, Jan. 19. The Trlstato farmers meeting listened to somo Interesting addresses. Oris Duncan discussed what the farmer might accomplish by more thorough organization 'and -cooperation. A. L. Lee, rain inspector of Idaho spoke on "Concentration of Locals." 'DON RAMIRO" Perfection of Clear Hanava goods. PERKINS' NEW PLAN. OIL KILLS DL'CKS. Oil Tank Slcain Cleans Uolloi'.s In Inland Waters. SEATTLE, Wash., Jan. 19. Lovers of blid lite and sportsmen aro aroused by tho death of count less ducks on Anderson Island and tho Ntsqually Hats. Their eyes arc bloodshot and wings and feathers glued tight to their bodies by a etlokly substance, cleaned from tho lusldo of an oil-tank steamboat. As n result of this pollution of tho waters, tho birds cannot lly and they aro starving by tho thousands. Tho gamo warden of Pierco county weut to their relief recently with grain. Tho lank-men guilty for this condi tion will bo prosecutod, as it Is against the law for them to bofoul tho water In such a way. Roscburg Oil and Coal Promoter Will Enter Politics. ROSEBURG, Ore., Jan. 20. J. W. Perkins, tho local coal mine oper ator, admitted that he was "serious ly considering" becoming a candidate for representative from Douglas county. Ho Is a Republican, favors the assembly plan and served in the legislature as a representative from Jackson county in 1907-08, when he was engaged In tho fruit growing business near Medford. "If coal mining by my company Is to bo car rled on extcnslvoly and successful ly," said Mr. Perkins, "tho present laws relntlng to such projects will have to undergo somo changes. It would be my chief object to bring about such changes If I should go to tho legislature again. I aspired to tho legislature from Jackson county for the sole purpose of aiding horti cultural legislation, and tho laws that wero enacted along that line wcro of tremendous benefit to tho fruit growing interests of tho state."
