Word has been received here that Lupie Carranza, who fought several times en the Bay, lost his bout Thanksgiving Day at Coallnga, Cal., by fouling Johnny O'Keefe, a well-known Denver pugil ist. O'Keefe was put out In the twelfth round by the foul. Plant Delnyed.--Agent Dow of the M. F. Plant, received a wire today that the Plant had been delayed In San Francisco loading freight until 1 o'clock today. This will mean that she will not get In here until about noon Friday and that she will no, sail until Saturday. Hus Granddaughter. Captain W. C. Harris of Sumner, Is said to be one of the proudest men in Coos county as a result of the birth of a granddaughter, the little Miss com ing as a Thanksgiving present to the home of his son, Mr. and Mrs.' W. Ho reports that a number of Im provements are projected there for next spring. A. M. PRENTISS came in from, his 'Ten Mile ranch today. He reports that everything there Is about as wet as It can be decidedly too moist for comfort. . MRS. ARTHUR McKEOWN is hos tess at a reception this afternoon In honor of Mrs. J. W. Bennett. It Is one of the largest social func tions of the season and1 the Ben nett home was elaborately decor ated for tho occasion. J. L. COOK of Empire', was a Marsh fleld visitor today. Ho reports that the Empire people are high ly opposed to the Southern Ore gon Company's plan to vacate a plat there which would throw property Inside tho city limits Into, acreage. It will reduce Empire' taxes considerably. Tho Empire city council will probably enter a protest with the county court against the proposed action. Marshfleld Elks will meet in their hall this evening to complete preparations for their annual memorial exercises which will be held In tho Masonic Temple next Sunday and to attend, to other matters. May Go On My Petitions. It was stated this afternoon that L. F. Palkensteln would probably ga on tho ticket by petition. Ho could not bo seen personally but some ot his, friends were urging It. Last evening. It seoms that he was the vlcUm of a misunderstanding by s,ome of his friends. The latter were expected to have ballots printed with Mr. Falkenstoln's name on them With two of the other candidates, but they neglected to do so. if. C. McLeod's withdrawal came unexpectedly. Some of his friends had ballots printed with his namo on them and some of them had been circulated in 4 the 'hall prior to his announcement that he would not run. , There was some talk today that Peter Loggie might go on the bal lot by petition. He could not bo reached but parties In close touch with tho situation declared that ho would not do so. Yesterday afternoon, Major Kin ney threatened to try and keep Log gie off tho ballot If he was nomi nated for mayor last night on tho ground that he was now holding tho office of councilman and was not eligible.
