Events In That Section As Recorded By The Gold Reach GIoli Miss Nettle Carey was recently married In Eureka, Cal., to B. Clan cy. Owing to a gasoline famine In this vicinity, the river launches, Includ ing the Agnes mallboat, are tied up. Two gentlemen from Eureka have been Inspecting the Osprey and En terprise, the past week, with a view of purchasing one of them. No trade has yet been made. The Hume Estate sold about seven hundred head of stock sheep, a few days ago, which were driven to the Clark and Dwyer place by H. B. Smith. O. H. Stubrud, a homesteader of the Pistol river country, Is just re covering from an attack of appendi citis. He Is now on the road to Portland to undergo an, operation, and not take chances of its recur rence again. He says It Is pretty tough to be helplessly sick, all alone, and far from any neighbors. CURRY COUNTY BANK. New Institution Will Start In Gold Beach Soon. GOLD BEACH, Ore., Nov. 13. The first bank for Curry county will open Its doors for business in Gold Beach In the early spring. The ne cessary capital stock has been sub scribed for and the Incorporating pa pers have been signed and are now on the road to be,flled with the sec retary of state. Geo. D. Wood of Appleton, Wis., who made an inspec tion of this county early last fall, is the prime factor In the enterprise. His local associates will be E. A. Bailey, C. H. Bailey, W. J. Cole- brook, W. J. Ward, W. A. Wood and W. A. Bishel, probably several other local men will hold stock of smaller denominations. The name to be given the bank will be CurVy County Bank. . . ROGUE RIVER FISHING. Independent Company Organized There For Next Season. GOLD BEACH, Ore., Nov. 13. At a meeting last Saturday, previously called for the purpose of organizing an Independent fishing company, a temporary organization was effected with Thomas Smith as chairman. A committee of five was appointed to ascertain the cost of a cold s;orage plant to secure a site for same and do all other preliminary arrange ments. The committee consists of C. H. Bailey, J. M. Woodworth, W. H. Caughell, W. A. Wood and S. E. Marsters and will make their report at a general meeting, called to meet on Saturday, November 27th, at which time a permanent. organization will be effected and a stock subscrip tion started. Hnlght, formerly of this city, but lately conducting a market for the Coqulllo Valley Packing Com pany at Myrtle Point, was In this city a few days lately, having closed out the shop at the Point. Frank Kimball inflicted a severe cut In his left foot while working at 9 one of the Smith-Powers camps on Cunningham Monday shortly after one o'clock. He was brought to town immediately by the locomotive. Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Stephens of Flshtrap, were Coqullle visitors last Thursday. Mr. Stephens spoke of having roasted potatoes to spare, as he had several tons stored In the barn of W. B. Smith which burned last week. Lewis Homes, for some time an Inmate of the county infirmary, and who has been suffering for a num ber of years from paralysis, was broueht in the last of the week to the county hospital, now b'eing con ducted by Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Wilson In the Little Hotel building. Thomas Smith, of Rlverton, ar rived Friday from his visit with rel atives and friends at and about Port land. He Informs us that he found his ypungest daughter, Mrs. Anna Schnlder, In a rather serious condi tion, being a great sufferer from a peculiar affection of the eyes, from which cause her right eye had to be removed, and she has almost lost the sight of the left, of which her friends here will be very sorry to learn. W. J.. Falrman and daughter, Miss Annabell, arrived by tho FJfleld which came In Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Falrman have been absent for sev eral weeks, having attended the Seat tle fair and visited friends in Port land, and later relatives and friends In California, Mrs. Falrman remain ing at Santa Rosa for the present. Mr. Falrman tells of having a very pleasant time and how ho enjoyed a visit to the experimental farm of Luther Berbank, the agricultural wizard. Joe Nay, the Port Orford pioneer, who had been back to his old home In tho east, passed through town on his return last Saturday. Ho tells us he greatly enjoyed a visit with relatives and old-timo friends in Maine, Massachusetts and Now Hampshire. He found it hard to leave Boston, whore his many friends tried to persuade him to remain dur ing the winter, but ho felt, after so many mild winters In Curry, he could not stand their severe weather. W. headquarters a handsome gold ring bearing the Initials of that order. It was awarded to him for his active work in securing new members for the lodge. Miss Dorrls Williams, who ha been teaching at Bridge, came home last week, suffering from an attack of typhoid fever. She has gained rapid ly since reaching home and will soon be able to be about again. The bridge crew from Marshfleld was up with the work train several days this week strengthening tho bridge so that It would withstand the high water. It has" been on false work for some time and the threat ened rise of the river has brought some apprehension for the t struc ture's safety in the railroad offices. Rev. H. M. Branham writes that he has been stationed at Norwalk, Los Angeles county, Cal. He and Mrs. Branham attended the confer ence at Phoenix, Ariz. Norwalk, ho says, Is a town of 800 people, on tho Southern Pacific railroad and on the main auto road between Los Angeles and Santiago. They have a nico church and parsonage and a mem bership of 118 fine people. The new copper circuit telephono lino which has been building this sea son between Myrtle Point and Rose burg, was completed yesterday and connected up with tho service. Tho last half mile gap between here and Remote was closed up during Wed nesday and the now wire has now- been placed In commission. The Im provements to the local office and service have been carried on apace and It Is expected that all the im proved facilities will be available tor use In a short time. COOS COUNTY APPLES, Coqulllo Valley Ships Large Number This Year. The Myrtle Point Enterprise says: "A Marshfleld newspaper, In stating that this Is not an apple country quotes a couple of buyers as statins that they were unable to purchaso from 1,700 to 2,000 boxes of apples In the county. It Is possible that there are not many prize apples la the county, and It may be that the Marshfleld editor Is judging tho country by his immediate surround ings, but to get tho matter straight so that outside people will not think that we do not raise apples here Tho Enterprise wants to state that ono Myrtle Point firm is shipping 4,000 boxes of apples .this season and the fruits growers association expects to ship at least 3,000 boxes if tho weather will permit the packers to finish their work. This will mako a total of 7,000 boxes being shipped from this point, not to mention tho boxes' that are being kept for homo consumption, and the packers and shippers have been particular as to the quality of fruit shipped, throw ing aside apples that were as good as any to use, but not perfect In form or coloring. This for immediate proof that this is an apple country. During tho pas.t few years there has been a notable development of tho fruit growing Industry.
