"SICK WOMAN'S LUNCH
CUTS OFF HER BENEFITS
Fraternal Society Committee, Flntk
ncr Laying in a Cargo of Pigs'
Feet and Sauerkraut. T
DETROIT, Dec. 24. Because the
Ladies' Aid Society, an organization
of Gei man women, withheld her sick
benefits, Mrs. Henry Opplflenuus haE
brought suit to enforce payment.
She was resisted on the ground that
a woman couldn't be very ill who
would eat sauerkraut and pigs feet.
The plaintiff had been 111 for sev
oral weeks and had undergone1 an
operation. -She was paid ?5 per week
for eleven weeks, and then, when sev
eral ladies called upon the invalid,
they testified they found her seated
at the table eating heartily of a diet
of sauerkraut and pork. At once the
sick benefits stopped, tho women
holding that an invalid couldn't eat
such a dish.
The question was too deop for Jus
tice Ott to decide offhand, and he
withheld decision.
