Principals of County Meet In
Coquille and Arrange For
Debates and Games.
COQUILLE, Ore., Dec. 22. A
mooting of the superintendents and
principals of the public schools of
Coos county was held In the office
of C. R. Barrow. The schools repre
sented wero North Bend, Bandon,
Myrtle Point and Coquille. Marsh
flold was not represented through
soma misunderstanding of the ar
rangements. Prof. A. Q. Raab of North Bend,
Prof. Anderson, of Coquille, Prqf. H.
C. Ostein, of Bandon and Prof. Ray
mond A. Baker of Myrtle Point were
present Many topics In repard to
the conduct of the schools for the
noxt year were discussed, the prin
cipal of which were the arrangement
of a schedule of a series of basket
ball games to be played by the high
school teams throughous the next
semester of the school year.
It was decided to devlde the coun
ty Into two sections for the formation
of a debating league, the Valley
against the, Bay side, or Myrtle Point,
Coquille and Bandon against Marsh
flold and North Bend. First Coquille
will debate with Myrtle Point on the
subject, "Resolved: That Greece
has done more for the civilization of
the world than Rome." Marshfleld
will debate North Bend on the same
subject. Bandon will debate with
the winner of the debate between Co
qullle and Myrtle Point on the sub
ject, "Resolved: That the postal
savings bank will be an advantage to
the people." Then on May 7 the win
ner of the Marshfleld-North Bend de
bate will debate the winner of the
Valley debate on the same subject.
The following schedule for basket
ball games to be played between the
public schools was arranged, with
the exception that the dates for
Marshfleld's games have not been
definitely arranged.
Dec. 18. Bandon vs. Coquille at
Coquille.
Dec, 22. Coquille vs. Myrtle
Point, at Myrtle Point.
Dec. 29. Coquille vs. Bandon at
Bandon.
Jan. 20. North Bend vs. Myrtle
Point at Mrytlo Point.
Jan. 21. North Bend , vs. Bandon
at Bandon.
Jan,. 22. North Bend vs. Coquille
at Coquille.
Feb. 5. Myrtle Point vs. North
Bond at North Bend.
Feb. 19. Bandon vs. North Bend
at North Bend.
Feb. 26. Coquille vs. North Bend
at North Bend.
It was arranged to at least play
doublo games, that is two games, one
between 'the boys and one between
the girls of the schools at each mept
ing of tjho valley teams and if possi
ble to make the samo arrangement
for tho Bay teams.

MYRTLE POINT, Dec. 22. Phil
ip A. Decker, aged 79 years, C
months and 18 days, died at the
homo of his son, Arthur Deckor, in
this city, Monday. The funeral was
hold from tho Brethren church Mon
day afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev.
Thos. Barklow officiating, and in
terment took place in tho Myrtle
Point cemetery.
Mr. Decker is believed to have
been the first man In Oregon to join
tho Brethren church, having affillat
ed with that organization in October
1873. He was a pioneer of Coos
county," having moved hero In tho
early" sixties,' taking up a pro-emp-Uon
in tho Coquille valley In 18G7.
He had' boon married three times,
his second marriage having taken
placo In 1857, when ho married Ro
becca C. Braden, daughter of S. C.
JWIqjij Sr. His third wife was
Sarah D,. Lester, to whom he was
united December 19, 1897. Four
children were born of tho first mar
riago and olevon of tho second.
