farmer boy, Charles R.
Howell of Holllday, Mo., who en
tered tho homo economics depart
ment at tho State University in Sep
tember, has proved himself tho equal
of the coeds at cooking and dlsh
washlngs. Another man, Glen Craw
frod of Atlanta, Mo., entered tho
homo economics with Howell, but
abandoned the course.
On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fri
days from 8 o'clock to 10 Mr. Howell
bakes and bolls and stews. Thero
are eleven coeds In the class, but tho
Instructress, Miss Lelghton, says
Howell Is as good as any of them,
and makes sponge cake, flap jacks,
apple fritters, vogetable soup and
bolls meats with tho skill of a royal
. chef.
When asked about his prowess
with the rolling pin and the dlshrag,
Mr. Howell was diffident. "I am a
student In the Teachers' College
high school," ho said, "and will enter
tho agricultural department next
fall. I am taking tho home eco
nomics work to make entrance cred
it in the' university. I never cooked
any till I entered the laboratory, and
the girls all have me bested there.
1 1 am going to be a Missouri farmer,
and a farmer ought to know all
about everything done on his place."
I When asked if he thought he
i would make a better husband for
some pretty girl because of his cook-
ilng skill, Howell laughed and said,
"Surest thing you know."
