Notice Is hereby g.ven that sealed
bids will be received by the common
council of the city of M.ushflrld Coos
county, Oregon, up to half past seven
o'clock In the afternoon of the 22d
day of December, 19 uN, for the im
provement with sidewalk of the fol
lowing streets, to-wlt:
1. That portion of the west side
of Graham clrcet from a point 10 foot
south of the north line of California
avenue to the south line of lot 25 of
block 52, in Railroad addition to
Marshfleld, Oregon.
2. That portion of the north side
of Washington avenue from a point
10 feet west of the east Hue of Bur
nett street to the east line of Graham
street, In Railroad addition to Marsh
fleld, Oregon.
Sold Improvements to bo made ac
cording to the plans and specifica
tions thereof on file In the office of
the city recorder and there open to
tho Inspection of all persons Interest
ed therein.
A certified check for five per cent
of tho amount of bid must, accompany
each bid, to be forfeited to tho city

who came here from Baker City, has
purchased from A. B. Smith a half
Interest in the Nutwood saloon. The
place will be conducted by the two
partners.
Gets nnrrlnmn Hounds. G. A.
Gould, who has had the Harrlman
bear hounds on his ranch on North
Coos river, brought them down this
week to Al. Smith who will keep
them on his Coos River ranch for
a while. During the last few months,
Mr. Gould has killed fifteen wild
cats and five panthers.
Want Exhibits. Miss Violet Hen
derson, assistant secretary of the
Chamber of Commerce, is endeavor
ing to collect a Christmas exhibit of

Coos River, has brought a scow load
of coal to Marshfleld. The coal has
been marketed In North Bend, but
tnts was the first coal from the Lil
lian mine that has been offered for
sale In this city. For the past year
Mr. McDonald has been developing
the mino and It 13 now producing
some fine market coal.

church parlors. They have prepar
ed a nice lot of fancy articles which

are looking for Christmas presents.
P.onts AH Out. The condition of
the Coos Bay bar was Improved yes
terday. It has been rough on tho
bar and outside for several days, but
now everything In the way of boats
ha3 left the bay and none nre bar
bound. All of tho boats in tho bay
had left last night.

I New Business House. Wm. Fran-
'zenbach and H. H. Wilson, under tho
firm name of tho Pacific Monumen-
I tal and Building Works, have opened
,a store on South Broadway, near
the Mattress factory. They will do
contracting In all lines of marble,
granite, stone, concrete and tiling.
They have just received their first
shipment of material. Messrs. Wll-
I son and Franzenbach aro well
, known here through many months
residence. Mr. Franzenbach did tho
work" on tho marble columns in tho
local bank buildings.

New Districts of City.
Improvements which will furnish
electric light and gas service to somo
residents who do not now receive it
are being made by the Coos Bay Gas
and Electric Company. Tho company
is just completing a new lino extend
ing tho electric light service to Bun
ker Hill addition and tho new school
house.
In the high school a seven and
one half horse power motor Is be
ing Installed to bo used for tho pur
pose of ventilation. ,
Tho gas mains on C street are
being extended on out to tho end
of tho improvements on that thor
oughfare and will allow gas to bo
used by many more of the residents
of West Marshfleld!

bar sometime this afternoon. She

tha Umpqua river. This will bo the
first trip of tho Wllhnlmlna to Gar
diner. She will carry a cargo of
freight from hero billed for Gardl-
ner and will bring back a load of
butter, hides "and othqr products of
the- place. It Is expected to mako
trips to Gardiner from now on as
well as to Floronco and Bandon.

going repairs duo to a blaze on tho
boat yestorday afternoon. Tho
Marshfleld was not badly damaged
and about ?75 will cover tho loss.
She will bo out again In a few days
and In tho mcantlmo tho Bonlta and
North Bend aro taking caro of tho
run.
When tho ongino was started on
tho Marshfleld tho spark ran dowa

Tho accident was not duo to any
carelessness hut was one which is
liable to happen with any engine.
