AN UNUSUAL OPERATION.
Mrs. Wilson Undergoes Serious Oper
ation As Only Hope of. Relief.
Mrs. Sarah Wilson of Broadway,
underwent an operation at Mercy
hospital .yesterday morning for the
removal of a gall stone which had
found its way into the common duct,
the canal carrying the bile from the
gall bladder to the bowel. Mrs. Wil
son has been a sufferer from gall
stone colic for the past fifteen years
and two weeks ago a stone became
imbedded in the common duct and
could not be removed without a sur
gical operation, altho the physicians
in attendance tried everything known
to medicine before resorting to an
operation in as much as such a sur
gical procedure is classed in surgery
as one of tho most serious, as well
as one of the most difficult, surgical
procedures a doctor has to deal with
and it is only in extreme cases and
as a last hope of relief that it is
resorted to. Mrs. Wilson has been
confined to her bed for the past two
weeks a continual sufferer.
Tho operation was as successful as
could be hoped for, a very ragged
stone being removed from tho com
mon duct, about one half inch from
the bowel; in all probability the
stone would have ruptured through
into tho abdomen within another
twenty-four hours. Mrs. Wilson's
condition was quite encouraging this
morning, however, hor physiclanb
ore very reticent regarding her hope
of recovery as her condition will tie
serious in the extreme for several
days.
