STATEMENT AND FACTS.
Wo, the undersigned wit
nessed tho conversation f
Carl Albrecht and Walter Condron,
regarding tho planks used by Al
brecht and for which uso said Al
brecht has been publicly accused of
confiscation. Mr. Albrecht In our
presence asked Mr. Condron If ho
did not, at tho time tho planks wero
hauled there, ask Condron If ho
could use those planks; In answer,
Mr. Condron says, "I told you thoy
belong to Smith and If I were you I
would uso them and let the other
fellow look out for his pay."
Albrecht asked Condron, "Did we
talk about tho price of those
planks?" Condron says, "I told you
at 'the time thoy wero worth $6.00
per M."
Condron then volunteered the in
formation that neither he nor any
oho on the city council had In any
way accused Albrecht or even In
tlmnted that Carl Albrecht had con
fiscated those planks.

(As the article refers to a statement
In last Wednesday's Times, a word
af explanation to the laBt paragraph
Is herewith given: Tho Times said
that In instructing tho recorder to

stated that Mr. Albrecht had "con

alleged assertion to tho contrary,
Mr. Sandberg, the city engineer, and
Mr. G. W. Kaufman, the deputy ro- .
corder, who was acting as clerk of
tho meeting aro ready to substantlato
the statement in Tho Times that it
was stated that Mr. Albrecht had con
fiscated the plank." TJio Times me

ROOST FOR COOS BAY.
Editor Coos Bay Times:
Each recurring day should remind
tho people of Coos Bay that tho time
Is near at hand when Congress will
again conveno and that each day
should mark sorao distinct advanco
In perfecting the detail of a definite
plan of campaign for procuring an
adequate appropriation from this
congress for the contemplated im
provements of Coos Bay and bar.
From recent advices, it would appear
that no appropriation has been re
commended by tho Board of Engin
eers to tho Committee on Harbors
and IUvers so far as tho Interests of
Coos Bay are concerned, however,
whether thiB be tho status of the
matter, or otherwise, It Is essential
that prompt, definite and decisive
action should be at once taken and
every detail of a vigorous campaign
carefully arranged to tho end that
tho matter may properly bo present
ed to congress at tho earliest "pos
sible day, and this may bo accom
plished in but ono way, and that, by
sending capablo representatives from
Coos Bay to Washington City to be
gin a "bombardment" on tho first day
of tho session of congress, Truo, wo
havo two senators and two repre
sentatives from Oregon whom we ex
pect, and aro assured, will do all In
their power to procure tho necessary
aid from congress; but wo must not
bo unmindful of the fact that these
gontlomen aro driven from pillar to
post by other and numerous localities
in this state who aro demanding a
consideration of their Interests as
well as many matters of National con
cern to which thoy aro require to
glvo more, or less time this means
that thoy cannot glvo to Coos Bay
the attention that will bo required to
accomplish the dealrod ends without
an additional stimulus by having
present in Washington some of our
own people to push tho work. Wa
should also seo that senators and
representatives In tho other states
are made to become Interested la tho
work, this may be done by those who
are now in this locality from tho out
side states. Lettors should go out
to influential friends in tho states
with an earnest request that their In
fluence bo used on tholr respectivo
senators and representatives to aid
our own members of congress in this
Important work, this would undoub
tedly result In bringing good results
and when such assistance Is promised
by outside members of congroas to
their own respectivo constituents,
they would undoubtedly give their
support to such measures as are
championed by our own congressmen
pointing to an appropriation for Coos
Bay, Enough time has been expend
ed In discussing these important
matters and tho time has now arriv
ed for definite and aggressive action.
