Worth Bend City Council Takes

The North Bend city council, this
week took steps to secure the Instal

The council Instructed Recorder J.

that sewer was not pat in deep
fenough and consequently basements
cannot be connected with it. City
Engineer Arnold came In for con
siderable criticism but whether the
complaints are unfounded or wheth
er Mr. Arnold or the contractor is to
blame will bo ascertained by the In
vestigation. The Street Committee was in
structed to ask for bids for Improv
ing the old AVoolen Mill slip and to
construct a warehouse or shed over
It, making it a market place for the
ranchers.
The city attorney was Instructed
to compel the waterworks company
to remove some hydrants recently in

LHDS CITISE
Dr. J. T. McCormac Says That
Prosperity and Development
Here Is Greatest.
"Marshfleld has an air of greater
prosperity and indications of lt"hi
substantial Improvements than any
city we passed through en routo
home from San Francisco here,' said
Dr. J. T. McCormac who, with Mrs.
McCormac returned from that city
last night. They had been thero
with their daughter, Mrs. French,
who hns been receiving treatment
there and who is much Improved.
"None of the towns north from
San Francisco has any where near
the appearance of growth and devel
opment that Marshfleld presents.
The new buildings here are not only
more numerous but are of a better
grade than those of the valley towns.
I am more confident than ever of tho
future of Marshfleld.
Shooting Great Sensation.
"Tho shooting of Francis J. Ho
ney last Friday In tho courtroom, as
you can Imagine, caused a great
sensation. That It passed over so
peaceably was due largely to Mayor
Taylor and District Attorney Lang
don and others taking the steps that
they did. Everyone expected mob
violence but the mass meeting that
Mr. Taylor and Mr. Lang-
don called prevented- It. Tho
enraged citizens attended It In great
numbers and the advice given by
Messrs. Taylor, Langdon and other
prominent citizens in their talks
eliminated the danger of mob vio
lence. It was feared for a time that
the offices of the Examiner and Tho
Globe, two papers that had been at
tacking Mr. Heney, would be mob
bed but they escaped Friday night
and Saturday, both came out in Mr.
Heney's behalf."
