Events of Interest As Told By The
Rndiiim.
Mrs. R. D. Hume, who had all
plans arranged for a trip to New
Zealand, whore her mother Is very
sick, got only as far as Bandon when
apprised by telephone message of
her husband becoming suddenly se
riously ill and hastened right back.
Mr. Rennlo, who has been pros
pecting for coal near Agate beach
on the property of Mr. Hume, vis
ited the workings on Sunday ac
companied by Messrs. Barcus and
Mc-Gaw. While the coal Is an ex
cellent quality of bituminous it re
mains to be seen whether it will
develop a vein of workablo char
acter. It has been used In the fire
and pronounced by experts to be
fully equal to the best Cumberland.
Should the prospect develop to suf
ficient extent it would givo this sec
tion a great ImpetuB as with plenty
of coal near at hand it would bo
possible to work tho black sands to
advantugo.

There aro rumors afloat that a
meeting of tho board of equalization
has been held lately. On tho ad
vertised date for holding tho meet
ing, owing to tho absence of the
assessor, there could bo no legal
meeting, and somo who desired to be
heard did not go before the bobtail
board. The latest mooting was held
as a star chamber proceeding and
no notice being given, parties who
desired to be heard were not aware
of tho action of tho board until they
heard Incidentally that tho assessor
had returned to his home. It is
doubtful if such action Is lawful, but
as the gang who run the affairs of
the county are a law unto themselves
as well as for all tho meek and lowly
of tho county, probably everything
will bo considered regular.
L. H. Boll Secures Magnificent AVeber
Piano From Eilcrs Piano House.
What is claimed to be the finest
and most costly piano ever shipped
to the Pacific coast has just been se
cured by L. H. Boll, the well-known
local pianist, from Eilers Piano
House, Portland.
It Is the famous Weber make.
which Is today acknowledged by tho
most prominent European and
American artists to bo the world's
best piano. The Weber Mr. Boll se
cured Is an exact duplicate of tho
one which captivated Paderewski,
and which ho used exclusively In his
last triumphant tour over the Unit
ed States.
Tho only difference is in tho case.
Instead of the conventional dark
color used purposely so the mam
and scratches which It receives In
a strenuous tour aro less dlscern
nblo, the Wober Piano 'selected by
Mr. Boll Is what Is known as an
"Art Stylo," being In tho very finest
and most costly crotch mahogany
procurable. Tho piano is truly a work of art,
for not only does the case .exemplify
the highest typo of perfection, but
tho tone of tho Instrument, that pe
culiar Weber tone which has won
for it tho highest esteem of the
world's greatest artists, Is there in
all Its wealth and beauty.
ATTENTION WOODMEN.
You aro requested to meet at tho
I. O. O. F. Hall at 1:30 p. m Wed
nesday, November 19, to attend tho
funeral of Neighbor Lund.
