not exceeding $500, bearing Inter
est at the rate of six per cent per
annum, payable sctnt annually; each
bond to bo dated November 2d,
1908, payable ten years from the
date thereof; provided that the
right is reserved to take up and
cancel any of such bonds, upon tho
payment of tho face value thereof,
within accrued Interest to tho date
of payment at any semi-annual In
terest payment peiiod at or after
one year from the date of such bond
or bonds, by giving thirty days pub
lished notice.

649.00. No bonded Indebtedness.
Population estimated at 5,000.
Certified 'heck for 5 per cent of
amount of bids must accompany
each bid, to be forfeited in case bid

given preference. The right is re
served to reject any and all bids.

real estate office as the polling place

next Tuesday. Tho city hall will be

Improve Coal Mine, Mr. and Mrs.
J. A. Peart of Coquille, were In the
city today on business. Mr. Peart is
manager of the Peart Bros. Coal
Company of that city and reports
that they have put in a new boiler
and other mining machinery, nnd
that in the spring they expect to
build a railroad from the mlno to
Coqullle to haul coal.
Lodges Move. Tho Modern
Woodmen of America and tho Royal
Neighbors lodges have leased tho
new Finnish temple lodge rooms for
the ensuing year and are today mov
ing their effects from the Eagles'
hall on north Front street. It Is
not unlikely that the organization
will arrange to erect a hall of their
own in the near future.
Tomorrow Is Hallowe'en. Satur
day night will be hallowo'cn and to
day everybody with loose gates,
sidewalks, fences, etc., nro trying to
anchor them eo that they won't
mysteriously move over to the other
side of town. Marshal J". V. Carter
and his cohorts will erideavor to
eliminate all malicious mischief and
anyone found destroying or damag
ing property Is likely to land in tho
city Jail.
Trouble Over Timber. Henry
iHoeck returned today from Portland
where he has been trying to adjust
the trouble between tho Larsen Tim
ber Company, in which he holds tho
controlling interest, and tho Coos
Bay Lumber and Coal Company. It
Is understood that Henry Boutin, Jr.,
of the latter company, refused to
meet Mr. Hoeck's terms. Meanwhile
the logs and other property of tho
Larsen Timber Company havo beon
attached by the working men. It
Is hoped that tho difficulty will bo
adjusted soon.

and then returned home. Owing
to his advanced years and his
complicated ailment, much appre
hension is being felt over him.

Company Is figuring on bringing the
steamer Liberty to Coos Bay and
put it on tho Coos River run If tho
proposed merger of the boat lines otT
the boat docs not go through. Tho
Coqullle River Company has been,
anxious to go in on tho "morgor of
tho lines, but thero is considerable
doubt as to whether the merger can
be effected. In case it doesn't, tho
company plans to enter Into compe
tition with some of the existing
lines. Manager C. J. McLain of tho
company, was over from Coqulllo tho
other day investigating tho situa
tion but did not make any announ
cement at tho time.
If tho merger goes through, It will
mean tho retirement of Captain Rog
ers, ono of tho oldest navigators In
this section, from tho business.
