ILYVE AVE A DEBT LIMIT?
This is a question that Marshfleld
must ask herself, and answer, in a
very short time!
Municipalities, like individuals,
"have a limit of responsibility in mon
ey "matters that may not be trans
cended, and the hour for business re
flection always arrives. We are not
setting the hour; though we might do
so with perfect justice to the city and
ourselves, but we are going on record
-with a suggestion that may well be
Ecnts of Interest As Recorded In
The Herald.
BORN At Johnson's mill, to' Mr.
and Mrs. Turner McNaab, a son.
Wm. Blngaman was up from Ban
don on Saturday. He informs us that
his father is becoming very feeble,
not being able to walk about since
his last stroke of paralysis.
E. N. Harry of the East Fork, was
down to town, on Thursday of last
week and left with us some samples
of his raising of turnips. One tip
ped the beam at 10 pounds and meas
ured 28 inches in circumference, and
is certainly a fine specimen of the
turnip family.
J. DeWitt Clinton was in town
Monday, he having arrived recently
from Southern Oregon and Northern
California where he has been engag
ed In mining for some time. He
will make his home in Coos now,
having taken up a homestead on
Weekly Creek.
W. F. Ray, of North Slough, was
over to Myrtle Point last week tor
see his father, W. H. Ray, who con
tinues in a very serious- condition.
He met there a brother, J. S". Ray
from Colorado, and a sister, Mrs. J.
II. Hurst of Kansas,, who have come
to see their aged farther during- his
illness.
II. A. Todd was in from his Round
Hill farm last Friday, and he- in
forms us that while he had some fine

burned over a part of his place.Mhat
in the end" he is greatly benefitted,
as ther were several acres of land
cleared, saving him of consideraBIe
work.
W. H. Norval, the Rlverton mfir
man was up Monday and informs us
that he is able to run about half the'
time on local orders, and with the
present outlook he may be able to
run full time In a short while. He
has shipped some lumber east lately,
sending it to the Bay by the Wilhel
mina, thence to Portland by steamer.

assert themselves at the hour men

lor anxiety at the moment, the dan

time, and we should be prepared to
avoid it with honor and safety.
There are people who do not know

sire reckless of all warnings; who see
only their especial interests in the

thing else so long as they are achiev

the abatement of public expenditures,
since public expenditure nnd private
