father-in-law, R. D. Chandler, was
critically ill. W. S. Chandler left

for R. D. Chandler to recover. He
has been feeling poorly for some
time. He is past 82.

Hns Late Straw berries. H. Ged
des, the well-known 'Coos River
rancher, has a number of strawbor
rles ripening on his ranch. Ho
brought in a box to tho Chamber of
Commerce this week. They were of
nearly as good quality as any seen
hero this season, although not quite
as large asv some. He says they aro
an early variety and this makes tho
second crop this season.

No New Fire Hose.
The city council last night deferred
tho purchase of additional flro hosa
until next spring. Fire Chief Tom
NIcols requested tho council to buy
1,000 feet more of hose sometime
ago, but Councilman' Savage said that
tho flro and water committee had de
cided that the city could get along
for a whUe without it.
A reprosentatlvo of a supply com
pany was present and offered the hosa
at seventy cents per foot, twenty centa
less than tho city has been buying it.
It was proposed that if the now

Finally, It was decided to have Tom
