NORTH BEND CORNERSTONE LAYING
With the. laying of the cornerstone
of the new North Bend high school
.Monday afternoon, in which all North
"Bond will participate and in which
ilarshfleld and Coos county generally
"will be represented, North Bend
school board, Supt. A. G. Raab and
exponents of better educational fa-
cilities will realize one of their nims.
The new high school, the building
of which will cost 53,000 will be
one of the best, most complete and
modern in Oregon.
The general plan for the new
high school was worked out by Supt.
A. G. Raab, and when submitted by
him to the school board, it met with
their hearty approval as it has from
alU to whom it has been explained.
The plan is complete In every partic
ular, representing the knowledge of
the needs of an up to date high

during ills eighteen years of school
work.
The slto for the school comprises
four and ono-half acres at tno head
of Pony Inlet and is one of the most
sightly locations on tho Bay. The
site was donated by Major L. D.
Kinney. In. addition to nmplo roofh
for tho building, thero is room for
nn athletic field, play ground and nil
tho desired surroundings of a modern
school.
The building is of brick on a con
crete foundation, making it practic
ally lire proof. A comploto vontilnt

other features of the building's up-to-dateness.
Instead of the old style olnsfc
rooms, Individual metallic lockers
will be installed, each student having
an individual locker.
The arrangement of the various
iloors of the building is as follows:
Basement will be divided into a
recitation room, woodwork and cook
ing rooms for the manual training
and domestic science departments,
gymnasium with balcony, salt water
swimming pool, lavatories, janitor's
room and heating plant room.
First floor will have four recita'tion
rooms, office suite, library rooms and
assembly hall.
The second floor will be divided
into three recitation rooms, physical,
chemical and biological laboratories,
balcony to assembly hull and a
museum.
Tho loboratories will bo completely
equipped to porform all tho experi
ments called for by the high school
text books In tho various branches.
The building will be supplied with
gas, water and electricity through
out. Special provision lias been mado
to have all rooms well lighted.

tary. While all North Bend Is exulted
over the securing of the flue school,
it is a source of particular gratifica
tion to Supt. A. G. Raab. Having
long been engaged in school work, he
has long wanted a school building
that conformed with his ideas and
now lie is getting it. Supt. Raab is
now serving his third year as head of
the North Bend schools and has done
some excellent work in that position.
Prior to coming to North Bend, he
had about fifteen years' experience
in schools of the mid-west and is ex
cellently fitted for the work as prior
