returned today from Bandon with a
cargo of hay and shingles.
Osprey Sails. The Osprey, R. D.
Hume's new gasoline schooner, will
sail today for Port Orford and Wed
derburn. '
Esther Buhnc Sails. The Esther
Buhne, which has been loading at the
railroad docks with lumber from the
Johnson mill, sailed today for San
Pedro.
Leave Trades Council. It Is an
nounced that the local Longshore
men's Union has withdrawn from the
Coos Bay Labor and Trades Council.
The action was taken, it is said, be
cause it was believed that tho bodies
could accomplish more effective work
separately.

Beale, the well-known Coos River
rancher, was In Marshfield today with
some fine products of his ranch. Ho
had some of the best green corn that
has been seen In Marshfield this sea
son, his crop not being seriously
damaged by the frost. His tomatoes
also escaped tho frost. Mr. Beale
expects to have some of his fine ap
ples entered in the national apple
show at Snokane. and his friends sin-
cerely hope that ho will win the

North Bend Masons have taken steps
to seCure a masonic lodge for that

whose jurisdiction North Bend has

Simpson of the Simpson Lumber
Company, while handling the line
from a schooner pulling up to the
North Bend dock the other day, was
Jerked into the water and for a tlmo
onlookers feared for his safety.
However, being an excellent swim
mer, he was able to get out of the
way of the vessel and get ashore un
aided. He was not injured.
Still After Big Game. Thayer
Grimes came in last evening from
Ten Mile where ho has been with his
father and the others In quest of any
big game that the Harrlman hounds
may stir up. Mrs. Grimes and he re
turned today to see some of the fun.
Col. Grimes says that he Is going to
get some of the biggest game ever
landed here regardless of the hazard
and he sent In word to have Dorsey
Kreltzer bo suro and pay bis life
insurance.
Honor Judge Ellin This after
noon, a party of Marshfield business
men with J. M. Blako as chairman,
and another party of North Bend
business men headed by Mayor L. J.
Simpson, is taking Congressman W.
R. Ellis, of Pendleton on a trip of
inspection over tho Bay. Tho trip is
being made on tho Columbia. Mon
day, C. J. Mlllls has Invited Congress
man Ellis and a few friends to make
a trip up Coos River and some of tho
Inlets on his launch, tho Beaver.

baseball team.
Tho sixteen-month-old daughter of
Sherman Cutlip of Daniel's Creek,
died of paralysis on Thursday, and
was burled yesterday in tho Coos
River cemetery. This Is the second
child tho Cutlips have lost within tho
past month. Services wero held at
the United Brethren church, the Rev.
Summerllu officiating.

morning's judging occurred when
Mrs. S. A. Yoakam of Coos county,
who Is in charge of tho exhibits in
tho dairy building, visited tho judg
ing ring. A number of Horoford
cows wero being displayed before tho
Judges and Mrs. Yoakam was asked
if sho could pick tho winners. With
out hesitation sho pointed to threo
cows In succession saying thoy would
tako first, second and third pre
miums. Whon tho judgo had com
pleted his awards It was found that
tho cows wore blue, red and white
ribbons, Just as picked by Mrs. Yoa
kam. And yot somo people say that
a woman cannot tell a good cow
whon sho sees ono." t
