New Logging Cmnp. Harry Noble
and Chas. Bradbury will open a log
ging camp shortly on the Norman
tract.
Recovers From Injury. Wm.
Biertz of Allegany was released from
Mercy hospital yesterday, having re
covered from the Injuries sustained
in a logging accident ten days ago.
He was attended by Dr. Geo. E. Dlx.
Builds AVarehoiisc. Capt. Ed
wards of the steamer Alert, Is plan
ning to erect a warehouse on the
dock at Marshfleld and will put in
an elevator which will accommodate
the large amount of freight coming
from North Coos River.
Steps On Rusty Nail. Mrs. Peter
son, of Bay City, is laid up as a result
of stepping on a rusty nail which
pierced the sole of her shoe and pene
trated her foot. Dr. Dlx who dressed
the wound does not anticipate any
unfavorable developments in the
case.
Open Season Ends. The deer
hunting season in Coos and Curry
counties closed yesterday, and no
more can be shot in this section until
July 15, next. In other sections, tho
season does not close until Novem
ber. The game law will bo strictly
enforced by Cal. Wright and tho
pther game wardens in this section.
Dredge Engineer Here. Donald
Charleston, a government engineer,
arrived here yesterday from Portland
to take charge of the survey work
for the government dredge Oregon
which is now improving tho channel
of Coos Bay. Tho dredge has re
sumed work on the shoal near the
mouth of Pony Inlet, the delay caus
ed by the storm having been only
temporary.
Big Fish Story. North Bend fish
ermen are telling the biggest fish
story of the season on Coos Bay.
They claim that J. M. Thomas' son
landed a chlnook In the bay tho other
day that weighed C4 3,-4 pounds and
was over four feet In length. Tho
story is that tho young man caught
the salmon whilo trolling near
Plat B. Had he not tied tho line to
his foot, he would have probably lost
lino and all. As It was, it took him
about five minutes to land tho flsh
which is declared to tho largest land-'
ed In the upper bay in years.
Will' Return Soon. M. N. Knup
penberg, who has been negotiating
for tho Oregon Coal and Navigation
Company's property here, is expected
to return to Coos Bay in about ten
days or two weeks. While he haB
contracts for tho purchase of tho
property, it is understood that it was
necessary to have his associates in
Washington to pass on them. Super
intendent P. Hennessey of tho Libby
mine, who was in Marshfleld today,
said that there was no statement to bo
given out yet regarding the deal and
that there would bo none until Mr.
Knuppenberg returned.

of tho Coos Bay country with a
view to becoming financially inter

REV. G. S. CLEVENGER of tho
Marshfleld Baptist church, goes to
Bandon where ho will conduct ser
vices Sunday morning. Sunday
evening ho will conduct services at
Coquille. Owing to the improve
ment work now underway In the
Marshfleld church. It will bo im
possible to hold services hero Sun
day. J. W. BENNETT, who has been laid
up with an attack of Inflammatory
rheumatism Is improving rapidly,
much to tho gratification of his
many friends. As soon as , tho
weather clears up, It is expected
that ho will be able to bo out and
. around. This is practically tho
first time that ho has ever been
laid up by illness.
W. F. MILLER, Marshfleld agent of
tho local railway, will leavo to
morrow for Portland to meet Mrs.
Miller who is returning, from an
extended eastern trip. Sho has
been away about ton weeks and
spent most of tho tlrao at her old
home in Monroe, la., but sho also
visited at other Iowa and Nebras
ka points. In her last letter, she
stated that sho would bo glad to
get back to Coos Bay owing to
tho Intense heat in that section.
