CURRY COUNTY MIXUP.
Peculiar Situation In Oflicial AtTalrs
Reported There.
A friend told tho Sentinel Tues
day that thero was a possibility our
neighboring county of Curry would
have to dispense with tho luxury of
a Board of Equalization this year for
tho reason tho clerk and assessor of
tho county aro both before tho fed
oral court for trial on land fraud In
dlctmont. Tho only hopo.ltisstated
for tho Curry taxpayer to avoid paying
tho taxes as already fixed against his
proporty unless perchanco ho can go
into circuit court, lies In tho ability
of tho aforesaid gentlemen to get
homo boforo Oct. 19, Undo Sam be
ing tho sovereign authority In such
rare cases, but too patriotic to say,
as did John Jacob Astor, "Tho peo
ple bo damned I" This Is not Inti
mating a knowledge that there Is
anything wrong or excesslvo In tho
Curry county assessment this year,
nor are wo lampooning tho federal
court; wo aro tolling tho public of
an odd and rathor funny situation In
official affairs. Coqulllo Sentinel.
ATTENTION there will bo a Camp
of Royal Neighbors of America or
ganized hore at tho Finnish Hall, tho
eve of Oe,t. 13, 1908, by District Dep
