and Port Orford. She had a full
cargo of merchandise and other stuff.
Entertains nt Bridge. Miss Vi
vian Taylor is entertaining a number
of young ladles at a bridge party at
the home of Dr. and Mrs. E. E. Straw
this afternoon.
Funeral Tomorrow. The funeral
services of the little son of Mr. and
Mrs. Antone Anderson, of the United
States Life Saving Station, who was
accidentally killed yesterday, will be
hold from tho Swedish Lutheran
church Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock.
Inspect Road. The county com
missioners and Judge Hall, who have
been inspecting the county roads In
the vicinity of Alleganey returned
this morning and report that they
went to the end of the road above
Silver Falls and find that the road
which has been built this summer is
In good condition and that the con
tractors did good work.
Sells Mother's Restaurant. W.
W. Wilklns has sold "Mother's Res
taurant" on Broadway to two you:ig
Japanese who have been at Beaver
Hill and who will take charge soon.
It will thus becomo the first Japan
ese restaurant In the city. Mr. Wil
klns built up a large business during
his management of the place and his
many friends will dislike to see him
leave.
Light Rainfall. Less rain fell
during September just closed, than
in any September for six years. Oc
tober started out this morning with
a good shower indicating that it
won't be as dry as September. The
rain will do considerable good and
reduce tho danger from forest fires.
It is also said that a little wet
weather will bo beneficial to health
conditions.
Voting Couple Weds. Alva Doll
and Miss Myrtle Eva Baldwin, a
well-known Marshfield young couplo,
were married at the home of the
bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. D.
Baldwin on Daniel's Creek, last ovon
Ing. Only immediate relatives were
present. Tho Rev. John Thomas of
Coqulllo, officiated. They will bo
tho recipients of congratulations and
well wishes from a host of friends.
They will reside in a new cottage
which Mr. Doll has just completed.

Audience In Rural District.
The pupils of the Ten Mile school
tho other evening gave one of tho
most enjoyable entertainments that
has ever been given by pupils of a
rural school in this section, accord
ing to the largo number of friends
and patrons who were present. Tho
entertainment was arranged by Mrs.
Thomas, the teacher, who had tho
hearty and enthusiastic cooperation
of her pupils. All did very' well.

City Officials Hear of Attempt
to Oust Them But Can't
Verify Report.
Reports that a petition to invoko
the recall in Marshfield and oust sev
eral members of the council and
other city officials from their offices
is current on the streets, but these
rumors could not be verified today.
No one could bo found who would
admit that he had anything to do
with such .a movement.
The report was circulated among
tho city officials lato yesterday af
tronoon just prior to the special
meeting of the council. Tho names
of several were connected with tho
organization of a movement to in
voke tho recall, but all of these who
could be seen by a Times reporter
today denied participation in such a
movement.
Mayor Straw, Councilman Nas
burg and City Attorney Farrln said
that they understood meetings were
hold at the Finnish hall yesterday
afternoon and evening concerning
tho matter. No one could be found
who would admit that he attended
such a meeting.
Tho report caused quite a flutter
among the mombers of tho council
and the other officials and some of
tho councilmen talked of resigning
at once.
Col. Wm. Grimes said that he had
hoard of such a report but that ho
would not countenance any such
movement.
F. S. Dow said that ho heard
there was such a thing talked of,
but that he personally was opposed
to it.
CONTRACTOR STONE
IS ANGRY AT COUNCIL
Declares That Mut-shflrltl Body Is
Malting Anarchists and Ts Worse
Than Russian Government.
Contractor Stone, ono of the mem
bers of the firm that recently com
pleted tho Laurel street improve
ment, last evening told Mayor Straw
and the city council that the Marsh
field body was making anarchists and
declared that It was worse than tho
Russian governm&nt. His expression
of opinion came in response to a
query from Mayor Straw as to what
they desired. Mr. Stone and his
partner completed tho Job sometlmo
ago, but as part of tho property own
ers want to take advantage of tho
Eddy bonding act, tho money was not
In readiness for thorn when they
completed tho work. They have been
aftor it several times. It is expected
that they will bo paid today. Mr.
Stono said last night' that if they
were not paid today, ho and his part
ner would close tho street.
Yesterday, tho council accepted tho
grading of Sixth street and ordered
Bjorquist and Harqulst paid $900 on
their contract.
Holm and Haglund wero ordered
paid $279 en their contract.
A petition from property-owners
on 'C street, botween Fourth and
Wilcox streets, objecting to tho pro
posed raise In tho grado of the now
elevated roadway was laid on tho
tablo with tho understanding that no
heed would bo given It.
