Had Fine .Trip. F. P. Norton In
a note from Portland says they had
a very fine trip from Coos Bay to
Portland on the Breakwater, the
sea being as smooth as the bay. He
and Mrs. Norton go direct to Salem
to take In the State Fair.
Found Bend Panther. A large
dead i panther was found near the
Maxwell mine on Isthmus Slough the
other day. A bullet hole In the spine
told the story of his demise, the ani
mal evidently having traveled far
after some huntsman wounded him,

his arm broken yesterday for the
second time in three months. Tho
little fellow sustained tho fracture in
a bad fall, both bones being broken.
Owing to tho break following tho
previous injury so closely, it i may
permanently injure tho arm.
No Council Meeting. No sessloij

Messrs. Savage, Sacchl and Nelson
showed up, but Mr. Lockhart was up
Coos River, Mayor Straw was at
Bandon and Councllmen Nasburg and
Flanagan were away. After waiting
an hour or so in a vain attompt to
get a quorum, tho three councllmen
