Gov. Chamberlain Is aware of the
need of dredging Coos Bay was
shown by his actions yesterday
morning when he crossed In on the
Alliance. It was low tide but they
got across the bar all right. As they
neared Empire, they ran on to a new
shoal and had to wait for the tide.
Mr. Chamberlain got anxious during
the wait and was heard to remark
that If it was in his power, he would
see that a clear channel was provided

turned to day from a hunting trip
along the Pistol river In Curry coun
ty. During the week, they secured
six fine animals and brought back
quite a supply of jerked venison.
They had a very enjoyable trip. Mr.
Ayea will leave for his home In
Portland tho latter part of the week.
The Margaret lies Company play
ed "The Golden Giant Mine" at tho
Masonic Opera House last night, to
a well pleased audience. Tho piece
was handled most excellently by this
capable company. Tonight the play
will be "Pardners For Life," another
excellent play.

Development congress for his pa
per, tho Portland Journal. Ho will
also write some special articles
concerning the Coos Bay country
and tho fair here. He covers tho
court run In Portland for the
Journal and in addition to being
a good newspaperman Is a very af

city council will meet this evening to
award somo street Improvement con
tracts. The proposed telephone fran
chise may come up but several of
the councllmen aro said to have sig
nified their Intention of refusing to
grant It owing to no provisions being
