Fire Drill Tuesday Evening. Fire
Chief Tom Nicols has Issued a call
for a special fire drill Tuesday even
ing at 7:30 o'clock and every mem
ber of the Marshfleld department is
expected to turn out.
Wllhelniind Out Tomorrow.
The Wilhelmlna was to have sailed
today for Coqullle but owing to a
delay In loading the merry-go-round
and some freight at Empire, she will
not sail until tomorrow.
Council to Meet. The Marshfleld
city council will meet Tuesday even
ing. The South Marshfleld sewer
proposition will come up again, the
citizens there being anxious to have
the project rushed. A number of
street Improvement matters will also
come up.
1 Has Blood Poison. Charles Mer
I chant is suffering from a slight at
tack of blood poisoning in his hand.
The infection Is not regarded as serl
jous yet but it is very painful and re-
quires the member to be carried in
.a sling. His mapy. friends hope for
his rapid recovery.
Get More Machinery. The Coos
Bay Gas and Electric Company has
received two carloads of machinery
for their new electric light plant at
Porter. General Manager Seymour
H. Bell states that unless unexpected
difficulties are encountered, tho new
plant will be completed In about
ninety days.
Brenlcwnter Delayed. Owing to
tho Breakwater reaching hero a lit
tle later Saturday than expected and
the time required to unload and load
freight, she did not get out for
Portland until yesterday. Capt.
Magenn will try and mako the lost
time during tho trip and get out of
here on schedule time next Saturday.
Get Car of Melons. Tho Break
water brought In. a carload of water
melons from San Francisco for Pet
tijohn & Nicols. It Is declared to
bo the first full carload of melons
that has over been brought in hero
at one time. As melons have reach
ed tho low water mark of tho sea
son, the entire carload has already
been disposed of.

ing the International Episcopal
Convention and visiting his old
home, respectively. He had a
delightful trip but Coos Bay look
ed mighty good to him.
MRS. S. A. YOAKAM returned yes
terday from a trip to Tillamook,
Salem, Portland and other north'
ern points on business connected
with tho dairy exhibit at the com
ing state fair at Salem. She start
ed In today to arrange for the
dairy exhibits at the Second South
ern Oregon District Fair here.
THE REV. FATHER E. DONNELLY,
who has been in New York and
other eastern points, has written
that he will not return quite as
soon as expected. He will reach
Portland the latter part of this
week and remain there for the
annual retreat of the priest of this
diocese which opens next Monday.
He will be here a week from Sun
day, probably.
A. T. HAINES returned today from
Portland where ho arranged for
supplies for a flour and feed busi
ness which he will open In a few
days in his now building on South
Broadway. Mr. Haines was en
gaged in the fuel and feed busi
ness In Oklahoma before coming
here and the experience gained
there will enable him to make a
marked success of it here.
E. W. KAMMERER returned today
from a short outing in Curry
county. J. Doyle and W. Morrow,
who accompanied him remained to
secure a few more deer. They had
killed one before Mr. Kammerer
left. On the trip, Mr. Kammerer
had a nice, long walk that wasn't
scheduled. Ho thought to start
out from Eckley for Myrtlo Point
and ride when the stage overtook
him. However, he walked the
twenty-flve miles without th.e
stage appearing in sight and now
he Is thinking of entering the long
distance pedestrian contest.
PIONEER IS DEAD.
Enoch Wlmherly, Noted Old Timer of
Southern Oregon, Passes Away.
ROSEBURG, Ore., Aug. 10.
Enoch Wimberly, one of tho most
prominent pioneers of southwestern
Oregon, Is dead at his home here.
Ho is the father of L. Wimberly,
editor of tho Roseburg Review. He
was born April 1G, 1830, in Warren
county, Missouri and camo to Dou
glas county in 1854, Mr. Wimberly
located on a government land claim
near Glide. Early In the year 1850
ho again enlisted as a United States
volunteer In tho wars with tho In
dians of Southern Oregon, in pro
gross at that time. On September 3,
1857, ho married Miss Nancy A.
Marks, who had come to Oregon
from Illinois, with her mother four
years previous, and who now sur
vives him, she being at this time past
70 years of ago. Their golden wed
ding anniversary last September was
rendered less enjoyable by Mr, Wlm
borly's illness, ho then having been
In failing health for nearfy two
years.

ust 26 to 29. A large chorus is being
formed and trained by Mr. Elmer A.
Todd in several songs, Including tho
new "Coos Bay Marching Song,"
lately composed by Mr. Todd to tho
poem by Mr. Francis H. Clarke.
The Marshfleld young people mot
this afternoon at the school house,
and will meet again Thursday after
noon at 3 o'clock at the same place.
