of Oregon National Guard For
Coos Bay Started.

the Oregon National Guard Is desir
ous of having n company of militia
organized on Coos Bay and has
taken the matter up with Walter
Lyon, seci'otary of tho Chamber of
Commerco who will probably refer

Mr. Lyon belioves that a strong
company could bo organized here
owing to tho largo number of young

The southern district of Oregon Is
divided Into tho Fourth reglmont of

and at present thore are only eight

One-third of the blind children of
this country are victims of careless
physicians or midwives is the startl
ing claim made by George W. Jones,
superintendent of the Illinois school
for the blind. Inflammation of the
eyes of tho new born Is liable to re
sult In an acute Infection of the
eyes soon after the opening and
from one to three days after .birth.
One per cent of a solution of silver
nitrate is an absolute specific for
this dlseaso says Superintendent
Jones and can be administered with
out danger by the most untried physicians.
