Suddenly 111 at His Rooms This
Morning.
George Woodruff, a well-known
tiber cruiser, was found 111 and un
able to speak In his rooms nar tlio
postofflco about 9 o'clock this morn
ing. Ho was lying on the floor, evi
dently having been overcome while
attempting to rise and dress hlmsolf.
lie was found by Peter Olson who
rooms with him. So far, the physi
cians have been unable to ascertain
the trouble and are arranging to take
him to the hospital. A son, James
Woodruff, who Is working near Co
qullle has been sent for.
Mr. Woodruff, who Is past middle
age, had just returned from a trip
to the woods and Mr. Olson snys that
he appeared to be In usual spirits and
health when they retired last even
ing. Mr. Olson arose at 3:30 to go
to work and Mr. Woodruff appeared
toibe sleeping. At 9 o'clock, Mr. Ol
son returned and found him lying on
the floor unable to speak and nearly
unconscious.

Eva May English of English Creek,

of a sneezing fit that has lasted three
days nnd which her physicians are
still unable to check.
Tho girl started to sneeze after a
coughing spell, and sneezed 325
times In one hour. Her nose and
throat passages are badly swollen
from the constant racking. Experts
have been summoned to try to stop
the fatal attack.

Mutilate Sign. Unknown parties
last night mutilated the enamel let
tering on tho bronze sign at the en

bank. Tho enamel was chipped off
with a knife or some similar Instru

Wilhelmina to Port Orford. The
WUhelmlna sailed yesterday on her
maiden trip across the bar carrying
a cargo of about hundred tons to
Bandon and Port Orford. Consider
able of tho cargo was material for R.
D. Hume's now cold storage plant at
Port Orford. Tho capacity of tho
vessel was a surprise to all and it is
believed that she can easily handle
as high 130 tons of certain kinds of
freight that Is not bulky.
Tribute to Van Duscn. II. G. Van
Dusen, former state fish warden,
was tho recipient on Monday of a
handsome gold watch, a gift from
the employes of tho fish department
offices here a fatality was norrowly
averted when "William Brady, a pas
senger traveling over tho Mohawk
and Malono division of the New York
Central from Montreal to New York
city, was stopped barely In time from
taking poison given through mistake
by a Montreal druggist. Brady has
the telegraph to thank for escaping
death.
Shortly bofore the train loft Mont
real Brady entered a drug store and
requested that a prescription ho had
be compounded In a hurry, as ho was
about to leave tho city. Soon after
Brady had left the store with his
medicine, the druggist discovered
that he had by mistake used a dead
ly drug In compounding tho mixture.
Tho druggist, thoroughly frightened,
rushed to the Bonaventure station,
nnd not knowing Brady's destination
or tho train he left on sont messages
to several stations on tho Grand
Trunk and other roads, Informing
the man of the mistake which had
been made.
Ono of these messages was sont to
Tuppor Lake, In tho Adlrondacks,
and as tho train stopped at thnt sta
tlon tho telegraph operator Jumped
on board and called Brady's name.
Ho was none too soon, as Brady was
at that moment standing at tho water
tank preparing to take tho medicine.
Tho mistake was explained nnd tho
medlcino thrown away.
