ill liSLi BnlaLiU when the best people in Goqullle who
sat in the grand stand told Marsn
fleld supporters that they were
ashamed that such disgraceful tactics
were pulled off in their town, when
Burnside stood directly behind the
catcher and had not even cause to
doubt that the ball landed In foul
territory, and when several of Co-
qullle's business men after the game
i openly accused Coqullle players of
l stealing the game thru the means of
' a crooked umpire, then we feel that
we are justified in registering this
strong complaint. Manager Chap
man should be severely censured
for hiring Burnside solely for the
purpose of umpiring especially when
it is a known fact that the Burnside
was forced to leave his position as
umpire in the Tri-City League of
Portland for reasons which wouldn't
look well in print."

View of the Fans.
The following Is the impression of
the Marshfleld fans of yesterday's
game as given to The Times:
"To one Burnside, Manager Chap
man's salaried umpire, belongs the
credit of Coqullle's victory over
Marshfield in yesterday's gRmc. The
Marshfleld team has heretofore ac
cepted defeat at the hands of their
opponents with good grace, and at
all times has given the opposing
team due credit for its work. We

HARD GAME AT BANDON.
Tho North Bend-Bandon gamp in
was pronounced
ono of tho best games that has been
seen in Bandon in mnny months by
tho fans, tho final score being three
to nothlnir. A mlxnn In Jin nHcmnl.
o charge such a disgraceful act to J od doub,e p,ay , the fourth lnn,nR
gave Bandon its only scores. Hull,
any umpire had it been a first offonso,
realizing that any man Is subject to
mlbtakes of judgment. But, Burn
side thruout tho game rendered deci
sions which were palpably wrong and
unjust. For Instance, in tho fifth
Inning Merchant was struck upon tho
elbow by a pitched ball and refused
a base, Burnside claiming that tho
ball hit tho bat. Upon Mnnngor
McKoown's proposal to Bhow tho
bruise on Jimmy's arm, Burnside
threatened to hnvo him removed
from tho side lines. Similar deci
sions llko tho nbovo wero nindo by
Burnside during the game, all of
which led to a grand nnd fitting cli
max for Coquillo in tho last of tho
ninth. With tho scoro 4 to 3 in
Marshfleld's favor, Coquillo came to
bat for tho last tlmo. Gardiner, tho
first man up, filed to Owen. Lorenz
wns given transportation by Burn
sldo. Porterfleld hit to Owen and
forced Loronz at second. Novlns hit
to Merchant, who allowed tho ball to
slip by him, placing Portorfleld on
third and Novins on second. Then,
with two out and two strikes, ngalnst
him, Colllor knocked n long foul
along tho third baso lino, which
Burnside called a fair ball, scorlug
both Porterfleld and Novins.
"Hud this hit been only thrco or
Noith Bend's new pitcher, twirled
an excollent game, allowing but
seven scattered hits. He was given
good support, North Bend having
only two orrors. Flanagan caught
